Job summary

CSU Bakersfield is seeking an Instructional Student Assistant to tutor Scholar-Athletes in small-group sessions, primarily for lower-division General Education courses.

You must be a CSUB student (enrolled at least half-time) with a 3.0+ GPA and demonstrate initiative, empathy, patience, and creativity in working with diverse student groups.

Position is in-person, up to 20 hours/week during Academic Year 2026-2027, with salary starting at 17.86 USD per hour and department-scaled pay.

Qualifications

  • Must be CSUB student (enrolled at least 1/2 time).
  • Must have a 3.0 GPA or above.
  • Must be Junior or higher.
  • Must show initiative, integrity, empathy, patience, and creativity.
  • Experience with diverse groups including minorities, international students, English learners, LGBTQ populations, first-generation students, and students with disabilities.

Responsibilities

  • Tutor Scholar-Athletes in required small-group sessions.

The Kegley Center for Student Success is seeking applicants to fill the Instructional Student Assistant position.

Position Overview: CSUB Athletics Academic Support is looking for dynamic, enthusiastic, instructional student assistants who have a passion for teaching, mentoring, and leading.

CSUB Athletics ISA's will work with our Scholar-Athletes during required, scheduled, small-group content tutoring in all subjects, but with a concentration on Lower-Division General Education courses.

Requirements:

  • Must be a CSUB student (currently enrolled at least 1/2 time).
  • Must have skills and abilities to perform job functions.
  • Must have a 3.0 or above.
  • Must be classified as a Junior or higher.
  • Must have initiative, integrity, empathy, patience, and creativity.
  • Must have a passion for and experience with diverse groups including but not limited to racial and ethnic minorities, International students, English language Learners, LGBTQ populations, first-generation college students, and students with disabilities.
  • Must be willing to comply with CSUB's Academic Integrity Requirements and all NCAA Staff Regulations.

Instructional Student Assistant additional information regarding assignment:

  • Salary: The salary range for Instructional Student Assistants starts at $17.86 per hour. Each Department has a different salary scale. Please check with your department for your Base Salary.
  • Assignments: Assignments are made by Department Chair or Program Coordinator after consultation with the candidate.
  • Instructional Student Assistant positions are for matriculated students at CSUB.
  • Students are limited to 20-hours of part-time work on campus.
