Job summary

Alpine School District is seeking an Instructional Paraprofessional to support the secondary instructional program. The role focuses on supervising and instructing special needs students in the resource classroom and assisting in implementing instructional plans.

The position involves data collection, monitoring progress, and clerical support for teachers across classrooms and common areas. Hours are part-time with a 5.5-hour schedule on most days.

Qualifications

  • Spanish-speaking preferred.

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must complete mandatory employee training within the first 3 months of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Administers tests, homework, and make-up work to support teachers in the classroom.
  • Assists in data collection to monitor student progress.
  • Supports students individually or in groups with assignments to reinforce learning.
  • Attends trainings and meetings to learn job functions and procedures.
  • Communicates with supervising staff to help evaluate progress and implement IEP/504 objectives.
  • Models appropriate behavior to guide students in social development.
  • Assists in implementing behavioral plans identified in IEPs under supervision.
  • Maintains instructional materials, files, and equipment for availability and records.
  • Monitors students in various school environments to maintain safety and learning.
  • Performs clerical duties to ensure efficient operations.
  • Provides instruction to students in activities to reinforce objectives and plans.
  • Reports incidents or observations to appropriate staff for safety and documentation.
  • Supervises and escorts students to/from classes to ensure safe learning environments.

Non-contract, no benefits

Hours a day: 9:30-3:30 Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday. Wednesday 9:30-2:30 (approximately 5.5) Less than 29 hours per week.

Hourly rate: Untrained- Lane 5 $15.61

Trained- Lane 6 $16.62 (Employee will have the option to complete an in-district training which will qualify them for lane 6)

The job of Instructional Paraprofessional is done for the purpose/s of providing support to the instructional program within assigned classroom with specific responsibility for assisting in the supervision, care and instruction of special needs students in the resource classroom; assisting in implementing plans for instruction; monitoring student behavior during non-classroom time; and providing clerical support to teachers and staff.

Essential Functions
  • Administers tests, homework, make-up work, etc. for the purpose of supporting teachers in the classroom.
  • Assists data collection under the direction of the assigned teacher for the purpose of monitoring student progress.
  • Assists students, individually or in groups, with lesson assignments (e.g. reading stories, listening to students read, providing writing assistance, reinforcing english lessons, providing spelling practice, facilitating activities, computer learning programs, etc.) for the purpose of practicing and/or reinforcing learning concepts and assisting students in reaching academic goals and grade level standards.
  • Attends job specific trainings and meetings (e.g. first aid, behavior management, etc.) for the purpose of acquiring and/or conveying information relative to job functions.
  • Communicates with supervising instructional staff, professional support personnel, for the purpose of assisting in evaluating progress and/or implementing IEP and/or 504 objectives.
  • Demonstrates appropriate role modeling (e.g. conversation, manners, emotional support, listening skills, friendly and engaging attitudes, etc.) for the purpose of guiding students in the development of appropriate social and interpersonal behavior.
  • Implements, under the supervision of assigned teacher, behavioral plans identified in student IEPs for the purpose of presenting and/or reinforcing learning concepts.
  • Maintains instructional materials and/or manual and electronic files/records and classroom equipment, work area, etc. for the purpose of ensuring availability of items; providing written reference; and/or meeting mandated requirements.
  • Monitors students during assigned periods in a variety of school environments (e.g. rest rooms, playgrounds, hallways, bus loading zones, cafeteria, parking lots, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining a safe and positive learning environment.
  • Performs a variety of clerical duties (e.g. screening phone calls, distributing materials, maintaining inventories, processing documents, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring efficient and effective operations.
  • Provides, under the supervision of assigned teacher, instruction to students in a variety of individual and group activities (e.g. academic subjects, social skills, daily living skills, etc.) for the purpose of reinforcing instructional objectives; implementing IEP and/or 504 plans; and ensuring student success in school.
  • Reports observations and incidents relating to specific students (e.g. accidents, fights, inappropriate social behavior, violations of rules, safety conditions, etc.) for the purpose of communicating information to appropriate instructional and/or administrative personnel.
  • Supervises and escorts kids to/from classes for the purpose of providing a safe and optimal learning environment for students.
