Job summary

Alpine School District seeks an Instructional Paraprofessional to support the instructional program in the resource classroom, assisting in supervising and instructing students with special needs. You will help implement plans, monitor behavior, and provide clerical support to teachers and staff.

Responsibilities include adapting materials, providing first aid as directed, assisting with assessments, collecting data, and supporting students in individual or group activities to reinforce learning

  • Must complete mandatory employee training within first 3 months.

Responsibilities

  • Administers immediate first aid and basic health care under professional guidance.
  • Administers tests and assignments to support classroom teachers.
  • Assists data collection to monitor student progress.
  • Supports students with self-care activities to maintain hygiene.
  • Assists students individually or in groups with lessons to reinforce concepts.
  • Attends trainings and meetings to acquire and convey job information.
  • Communicates with supervising staff to evaluate progress and implement IEP/504 goals.
  • Models appropriate behavior to guide social development.
  • Maintains instructional materials and classroom records.
  • Monitors students across locations to maintain safe learning environments.
  • Performs clerical duties to ensure efficient operations.
  • Provides instruction under teacher supervision in various activities.
  • Reports observations and incidents to relevant staff.
  • Supervises and escorts students to/from classes for safety.

The job of Instructional Paraprofessional is done for the purpose/s of providing support to the instructional program within assigned classroom with specific responsibility for assisting in the supervision, care and instruction of special needs students in the resource classroom; assisting in implementing plans for instruction; monitoring student behavior during non-classroom time; and providing clerical support to teachers and staff.

Essential Functions

  • Adapts classroom activities, assignments and/or materials under the direction of the supervising teacher for the purpose of supporting and reinforcing classroom objectives and IEP goals.
  • Administers immediate first aid and medical assistance as instructed by a health care professional (e.g. medication, tube feeding, colostomy bags, etc.) for the purpose of meeting immediate health care needs of students.
  • Administers tests, homework, make-up work, etc. for the purpose of supporting teachers in the classroom.
  • Assists data collection under the direction of the assigned teacher for the purpose of monitoring student progress.
  • Assists students with self-care activities (e.g. toileting, washing, changing diapers, eating, dressing, grooming., etc.) for the purpose of maintaining students' personal hygiene.
  • Assists students, individually or in groups, with lesson assignments (e.g. reading stories, listening to students read, providing writing assistance, reinforcing english lessons, providing spelling practice, facilitating activities, computer learning programs, etc.) for the purpose of practicing and/or reinforcing learning concepts and assisting students in reaching academic goals and grade level standards.
  • Attends job specific trainings and meetings (e.g. first aid, behavior management, etc.) for the purpose of acquiring and/or conveying information relative to job functions.
  • Communicates with supervising instructional staff, professional support personnel, for the purpose of assisting in evaluating progress and/or implementing IEP and/or 504 objectives.
  • Demonstrates appropriate role modeling (e.g. conversation, manners, emotional support, listening skills, friendly and engaging attitudes, etc.) for the purpose of guiding students in the development of appropriate social and interpersonal behavior.
  • Implements, under the supervision of assigned teacher, behavioral plans identified in student IEPs for the purpose of presenting and/or reinforcing learning concepts.
  • Maintains instructional materials and/or manual and electronic files/records and classroom equipment, work area, etc. for the purpose of ensuring availability of items; providing written reference; and/or meeting mandated requirements.
  • Monitors students during assigned periods in a variety of school environments (e.g. rest rooms, playgrounds, hallways, bus loading zones, cafeteria, parking lots, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining a safe and positive learning environment.
  • Performs a variety of clerical duties (e.g. screening phone calls, distributing materials, maintaining inventories, processing documents, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring efficient and effective operations.
  • Provides, under the supervision of assigned teacher, instruction to students in a variety of individual and group activities (e.g. academic subjects, social skills, daily living skills, etc.) for the purpose of reinforcing instructional objectives; implementing IEP and/or 504 plans; and ensuring student success in school.
  • Reports observations and incidents relating to specific students (e.g. accidents, fights, inappropriate social behavior, violations of rules, safety conditions, etc.) for the purpose of communicating information to appropriate instructional and/or administrative personnel.
  • Supervises and escorts kids to/from classes for the purpose of providing a safe and optimal learning environment for students.
