Job summary

Sweeny ISD seeks an Instructional Paraprofessional to provide instructional assistance to students under the direct supervision of a certified teacher. You will help prepare, conduct, and manage classroom activities to support learning.

Responsibilities include preparing instructional materials, assisting with testing administrations, and helping maintain an orderly classroom. You will supervise students during the day and collaborate with teachers to support student success.

Qualifications

• HS diploma or GED required.
• Minimum 48 college hours or an Associates degree; CAPE test acceptable.
• Valid Texas educational aide certificate.
• Ability to assist in reading, writing and mathematics.
• Ability to work well with children and communicate effectively.
• Experience with children preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide instruction to students under the direction of a teacher; work with individuals or small groups.
• Assist in preparing instructional materials and classroom displays.
• Assist with administration and scoring of tests and work assignments.
• Help maintain a neat and orderly classroom.
• Assist with inventory and maintenance of equipment.
• Maintain administrative records and reports as required.
• Support substitute teachers as needed.
• Supervise students during school day activities inside and outside classroom.
• Notify teachers of any special needs or problems.
• Participate in staff development and faculty activities.
• Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

• High school diploma or hold a General Educational Development (GED) certificate
• Minimum of 48 hours college coursework required, or Associates Degree, or successful completion of the CAPE Test*
• Valid Texas educational aide certificate

Special Knowledge/Skills:

• Ability to assist in instructing reading, writing, and mathematics
• Ability to work well with children
• Ability to communicate effectively

• Some experience working with children

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

Instructional Support

1. Provide instruction to students under the direction of teacher; work with individual students or small groups.
2. Assist teacher in preparing instructional materials and classroom displays.
3. Assist with administration and scoring of objective testing instruments or work assignments.
4. Help maintain neat and orderly classroom.
5. Help with inventory, care, and maintenance of equipment.
6. Help teacher keep administrative records and prepare required reports.
7. Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers.

Student Management

1. Help supervise students throughout school day, inside and outside classroom. This includes lunchroom, bus, and playground duty.
2. Make teacher aware of special needs or problems of individual students.

Other

1. Participate in staff development training programs to improve job performance.
2. Participate in faculty meeting and special events as assigned.
3. Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
