Job summary

Captain Gray Elementary in Pasco, WA is seeking an Instructional Paraeducator to support classroom teachers with one-on-one and group instruction. The role includes student supervision, materials preparation, and adherence to safety policies on a 180-day calendar at 6 hours/day across most weekdays.

You may assist with transportation, testing, and behavior management, including translating when needed and supporting students with special needs. Starting date is To Be Determined.

Qualifications

  • Requires a high school diploma or equivalent and paraeducator eligibility.
  • Bilingual (Spanish) preferred but not required.
  • Knowledge of safety, de-escalation and behavior planning is essential.
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment and basic software applications.
  • Experience with students with behavioral disabilities is a plus.
  • First aid/CPR certification or willingness to obtain.

Responsibilities

  • Administers first aid and provides emergency care as needed.
  • Provides one-on-one or small-group instruction under teacher supervision.
  • Assists with classroom management and lesson preparation.
  • Supports student supervision during arrival, dismissal, recess, and transitions.
  • Helps report misconduct and ensures safety protocols are followed.

SALARY: $22.03 - $24.83

Salary Schedules

AA Degree - $0.50/hour extra

BA Degree $0.75/hour extra

NEW HIRES ARE CONDITIONAL UPON PASSING A FINGERPRINT SCREENING

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Administers first aid to provide emergency care.
  • Provide one-on-one instruction or group instruction.
  • Assist classroom teacher and/or building administrator(s) with classroom management.
  • Assist with preparing materials needed to conduct lessons.
  • Provide support or supervision of students, including but not limited to arrival and/or departure, cross walk duty, transit to bus, transit from bus, recess, breakfast/lunch time, hall monitoring, unloading and/or loading wheelchair bound students.
  • Assist with reporting misconduct on school property and/or school bus route(s).
  • Assist with light cleaning, issuing of equipment for necessary activities, setting up, taking down and/or supervising students during age-appropriate games/activities.
  • Adhere to District safety policies and/or procedures as well as required program guidelines.
  • Attend and complete annual required training hours for paraeducator certification.
  • Provide support, supervision and/or assistance administering tests, quizzes, exams, or any assessment as directed by teacher for the purpose of evaluating student progress or learning.
  • Maintain accurate and efficient student records within student information management system(s).
  • Translate verbal and/or written information for the purpose of assisting students, district personnel, parents and/or guardians. (Bilingual only).
  • Assist with needs related to diapering, tube feeding, toileting, catheters, and/or lifting. Additional pay provided if performing these duties per CBA.
  • Participate in District meetings to communicate information and gain feedback and/or direction on a variety of issues.
  • Distribute documents and materials to appropriate staff, students and/or parents.
  • Assists with supervision of students to ensure a safe and productive learning environment.

NON-ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist other personnel as may be required to support them with the completion of their work activities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned within the scope of the position.
  • Assist with contacting parents and/or guardians regarding student behavior and academic progress.
  • CPI trained or willingness to attend training.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School Diploma or equivalent, required.
  • Bilingual and/or Biliterate (Spanish), preferred but not required.
  • Must meet one or more of the following:
    • Associates degree (AAS, AA) or higher;
    • Earned 72 college quarter credits or 48 semester credits in college level 100 or higher courses;
    • Passing score onthe Educational Testing Service (ETS) paraeducator assessment.
  • Prior paraeducator experience, college, or on-the job experience preferred but not required.
  • Experience working with students who are special needs preferred but not required.
  • Valid First aid and/or CPR card for infants and children or willing to obtain.
  • Prior experience in a K-12 school setting preferred but not required.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of general office equipment such as computers, copiers, laminators, telephones, scanners, paper cutters, book covering materials, and/or step ladders.
  • Knowledge in proper use of English in both written and verbal forms, use of correct grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
  • Maintain detailed and accurate records.
  • Skill in operating standard office equipment including basic computer applications.
  • Ability to sit and/or stand for prolonged periods.
  • Understand and conduct verbal and written instruction.
  • Knowledge and/or experience working with children with behavioral disabilities.
  • Knowledge of de-escalation strategies.
  • Knowledge of car seats, BESI seats and/or seat belts.
  • Ability to securely strap in wheelchair(s).
  • Knowledge of general cleaning supplies and usages.
  • Ability to establish a plan to address student behavior.
