Job summary

Newtown Public Schools is seeking an Instructional Paraeducator for a 27.5-hour work week to support students under the guidance of general education teachers. The position begins in August 2026 at Middle Gate School, Newtown, CT, offering front-line classroom assistance to aid reading, writing and math instruction.

Ideal candidates will have at least two years of college coursework or an Associate’s Degree and a passing score on the ETS ParaPro Assessment.

Qualifications

• Must have completed the equivalent of 2 years of college coursework, OR an Associate’s Degree or higher.
• Passing score on the ETS ParaPro Assessment or equivalent.
• Demonstrated ability to support instruction and small-group learning.

Responsibilities

• Support individuals and small groups in reading, writing and/or math under teacher direction.
• Positively contribute to social-emotional skill development.
• Assist teachers with classroom tasks as needed.
• Provide support across varying duties depending on grade and student needs.
• Adapt to changing tasks and student requirements.

Responsibilities

• Work under the direction of general education teacher(s) to support individuals and/or small groups of students in the areas of reading, writing and/or math
• Ability to positively support the development of social-emotional skills
• Provide assistance to teacher(s) in classroom tasks
• Assist in other various capacities, as needed
• Specific duties will vary based on grade level, content area, and student needs
