Job summary

Cherry Creek Schools is seeking an Instructional Para Educator to support licensed staff by assisting students with basic curriculum work and reinforcing learning skills. You will also prepare classroom materials, monitor students, and help evaluate and record achievement, including support for behavior management.

Under supervision, you may work with individuals or small groups and assist with field trips or drills. Strong communication and confidentiality are essential for success in this role.

Qualifications

  • Criminal background check and fingerprinting required.
  • High School Equivalency (HSE) diploma.
  • No professional work experience required.
  • Title I assignments: two years of college or higher education; associate’s or higher degree; or demonstrated knowledge in reading/writing/mathematics readiness.
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Intermediate English language skills
  • Intermediate oral and written communication skills
  • Advanced interpersonal relations skills

Responsibilities

JOB SUMMARY

Under the direction of a licensed staff member, assist students by helping individuals or small groups of students with basic curriculum work, implementing programming, reinforcing learning skills, and reinforcing discipline procedures. Assist classroom teacher by preparing classroom materials, monitoring students, and evaluating and recording student achievement. May include work with behaviorally challenging children.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The subsequent duties outline the fundamental operations of the position and exemplify the nature of the tasks carried out. Job Task Descriptions
  • 1. Assist classroom teacher in preparing materials, administering tests, grading, attendance, etc. Assist with paperwork and documentation as needed. (Daily, 30%)
  • 2. Assist students with classroom activities. Assist with curriculum delivery to both individuals and small groups to ensure mastering of subjects. (Daily, 30%)
  • 3. Monitor students and reinforce appropriate behavior during various activities such as play, lunch, detention, in-school suspension, in the classroom, or on field trips. (Daily, 20%)
  • 4. Perform basic clerical work for the classroom teacher, including typing, stapling, filing, duplicating, taking inventory, scheduling repairs and maintenance, data entry, word processing, laminating, ordering supplies, placing phone calls, materials distribution, and light bookkeeping. [Daily, 10%] (Daily, 10%)
  • 5. Assist with other classroom events, such as field trips or fire drills, as necessary. (Daily, 5%)

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

The minimum prerequisites of formal education, professional work experience, certifications, licenses, endorsements, designations, trainings, and other criteria that a candidate must fulfill to be considered for a position. It is essential that certifications, licenses, endorsements, designations, and trainings are fulfilled, valid, and not expired.

      • Reading/language arts, writing, and mathematics; or
      • Reading readiness, writing readiness, and mathematics readiness
  • Basic knowledge of typical office equipment such as telephones, copiers, fax machines, email, etc.
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office
