Job summary
Principal is seeking an Instructional Design Consultant 1 in Des Moines, IA to lead learning and development on strategic initiatives. You will partner with project teams and stakeholders to assess learning needs, design and implement engaging content, and evaluate outcomes to drive performance and adoption.
With 2+ years in instructional design and 4+ years in retirement or financial services, you will translate complex concepts into effective training using ADDIE and modern tools, including
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 2+ years of experience in instructional design, learning and development, adult learning, training development, or a related field.
- 4+ years of retirement industry, financial services, or related business experience is required.
- Demonstrated experience applying instructional design methodologies, including ADDIE and adult learning principles.
- Experience partnering with multiple stakeholders across diverse business functions and organizational levels is required.
- Experience developing e-learning content, preferably using Articulate Rise is required.
- Strong ability to simplify complex business and technical information into effective learning solutions.
- Strong project management, communication, consulting, and problem solving skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders and drive alignment.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast paced environment.
- Proven ability to build relationships, influence outcomes, and collaborate across teams.
- Ability to leverage data and metrics to evaluate effectiveness and drive improvements.

We’re seeking an Instructional Design Consultant on the Workplace Savings and Retirement Solutions (WSRS) Learning and Development Solutions team. You'll serve as the training lead on strategic, business and technology initiatives within WSRS. This role partners with project teams, business stakeholders, and learning professionals to assess learning impacts, address knowledge and skill gaps resulting from new products, system enhancements, process changes, and modernization efforts. The consultant designs, develops, implements, and evaluates learning solutions that enable employees to successfully perform in evolving business environments.
- Lead learning and development efforts for strategic business initiatives, serving as the primary training representative on project teams.
- Analyze business changes, impacted audiences, stakeholder needs, and employee skill requirements using instructional design best practices and the ADDIE methodology.

Salary ranges below reflect targeted base salaries. Non-sales positions have the opportunity to participate in a bonus program. Sales positions are eligible for sales incentives, and in some instances a bonus plan, whereby total compensation may far exceed base salary depending on individual performance. Actual compensation for all roles will be based upon geographic location, work experience, education, licensure requirements and/or skill level and will be finalized at the time of offer.

- Instructional Design Consultant 2: $69,300 – $94,500 / year
- Instructional Design Consultant 1: $58,900 – $79,800 / year
- Instructional Design Consultant 2: $73,150 – $99,750 / year
- Instructional Design Consultant 1: $62,000 – $84,000 / year
- Instructional Design Consultant 2: $77,000 – $105,000 / year
- Instructional Design Consultant 1: $68,200 – $92,400 / year
- Instructional Design Consultant 2: $84,700 – $115,500 / year
- Instructional Design Consultant 1: $74,400 – $100,800 / year

Flexible Time Off (FTO) is provided to salaried (exempt) employees and provides the opportunity to take time away from the office with pay for vacation, personal or short‑term illness. Employees don’t accrue a bank of time off under FTO and there is no set number of days provided.

- 6+ years of financial services, insurance or retirement experience or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, or education
- 3+ years of experience in Instructional Systems Design and competency-based Learning.
This role offers in‑office, hybrid (blending at least three office days in a typical workweek), and remote work arrangements (only if residing more than 30 miles from Des Moines, IA, or Raleigh, NC or Charlotte, NC). You’ll work with your leader to figure out which option may align best based on several factors.
