Irving ISD is seeking an Instructional Coordinator for Core Curriculum Areas PK-12 in Irving, TX, to lead curriculum and instruction activities and ensure alignment with standards. Responsibilities

  • Supervise and support the implementation of curriculum and instructional strategies to increase student achievement
  • Suggest methods, procedures and/or new programs for implementing the curriculum
  • Use data to improve student achievement
  • Collaborate with Professional Learning to plan and conduct workshops and teacher training institutes
  • Define or redefine the curriculum content of each course
  • Plan, develop and direct curriculum writing activities and district-wide planning
  • Select, develop and evaluate district assessments
  • Collaborate with executive leadership in evaluating state-adopted textbooks and materials
  • Keep division directors informed about instructional program
  • Serve on district committees related to curriculum and instruction
  • Facilitate two-way communication between school and district programs
  • Work with instructional department members
  • Communicate with other administrative departments
  • Assist in District Improvement Plan development and implementation
  • Allocate assigned funds and seek grant funding

Job Description

JOB TITLE: Instructional Coordinator Core Curriculum Areas PK-12
LENGTH OF WORK YEAR:220 days
REPORTS TO: Executive Director of Curriculum and Instruction
PAY GRADE:Admin4 (In accordance with Board approved salary schedule)
DEPARTMENT: Curriculum and Instruction

This position is eligible for a Chapter 21 contract.

Qualifications

Minimum Education:

  • Master’s Degree required
  • Valid Texas teaching certificate in content area
  • ESL Supplement required
  • GT Endorsement preferred
  • Bilingual preferred
Special Knowledge/Skills
  • Specific knowledge of assigned content area
  • General knowledge of all elementary and secondary curriculum areas
  • Knowledge in the selection, training, and supervision of personnel
  • Ability to plan and conduct staff development
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to effectively work and communicate with students, parents, and school personnel from diverse cultures or backgrounds
  • Knowledge of State and district content standards and knowledge of district school improvement initiatives, including content standards, effective instruction, and assessment practices
  • Skills in collaboration, curriculum development, and the use of data to improve student success

Minimum Experience:

At least three (3) years of teaching experience in curriculum area; secondary and elementary experience preferred

Major Responsibilities and Duties

1. Supervise and support the implementation of curriculum and instructional strategies to increase student achievement

2. Suggest methods, procedures and/or new programs for implementing the curriculum

3. Use data to improve student achievement

4. Collaborate with the Department of Professional Learning to plan and conduct workshops, conferences, and teacher training institutes to introduce new methods and procedures to improve the quality of instruction

5. Define or redefine the curriculum content of each course

6. Plan, develop and direct curriculum writing activities, promote the use of district-wide curriculum in the planning of classroom instruction and assessment of student achievement

7. Select, develop and evaluate district assessments

8. Collaborate with the Executive Director of Curriculum and Instruction in the evaluation and selection of state adopted textbooks and other curriculum materials

9. Keep Division Directors informed concerning pertinent aspects of the instructional program

10. Serve on district committees and task forces that pertain to curriculum and instruction

11. Facilitate two-way communication to and from the school, concerning all aspects of school and District programs, policies, and other issues impacting student achievement and success

12. Work cooperatively with all members of the instructional department

13. Communicate with other administrative departments

14. Assist in the development, communication, and implementation of the District Improvement Plan

15. Appropriately allocate assigned funds throughout the school year

16. Assist in securing additional funding through grants and private corporations

17. Make recommendations to schools on appropriate resources to support the instructional program

18. Facilitate development of criteria for proper placement of students in courses

19. Plan, prepare and/or participate in district/community projects, programs and contests designed to display educational achievement

20. Interpret school programs for interested community members

21. Stay abreast of current research by practice, by attending conferences, workshops, and reading professional literature

22. Join, participate in, and work on committees associated with professional organizations

23. Abide by the Professional Code of Ethics

24. Adhere to all board policies and District administrative procedures

Working Conditions

Physical/Mental Demands: Must maintain emotional control and exercise reasoning and
problem solving skills while under stress. Must demonstrate ability to communicate effectively
(verbal and written). Ability to coordinate district functions. Must interpret policy, procedures and data. Frequent lifting and carrying of moderate weight materials. Frequent in-district and occasional in-state or national travel. Frequent prolonged and irregular hours.
