Qualifications

District Description

Ypsilanti Community Schools is a small urban district conveniently centered around the major freeways (I-94 & US-23) within 5 minutes of Eastern Michigan University, and 15 minutes from the University of Michigan. We have approximately 3,900 students, 3 Early Childhood Learning Centers, 1 International Baccalaureate with Prek-5, 3 Elementary buildings, 1 Middle School, and 1 High School which features 2 programs within the building STEM and AC Tech, and 1 Alternative Education building (ACCE). Position Description

The K-12 Instructional Coach will support teachers in actualizing the district's vision for high-quality instruction by providing job-embedded professional learning that supports staff in developing and improving learning opportunities for all students.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Assist teachers in designing and implementing lesson plans and assessments that reflect the use of best practices and are correlated to the Michigan Academic Standards to provide instruction that will increase academic achievement for all students.
  • Assist teachers in developing classroom management strategies that foster a climate conducive to academic achievement for students in all subgroups for the purpose of raising achievement and addressing the academic needs of all students.
  • Identify and recommend appropriate resources for implementing the district's Vision for High Quality Instruction and the School Improvement Plan.
  • Support teachers in using flexible grouping to address academic deficiencies appropriately and provide opportunities to accelerate academic performance.
  • Assist the school's leadership team in monitoring the implementation of actions and strategies included in the School Improvement Plan to meet the identified goals.
  • Guide and assist grade level teams in the development and revision of teaching units and common assessments to improve academic performance.
  • Work closely with external coaches/consultants to align services to the needs of the school.
  • Routinely observe instruction and provide effective feedback to teachers (informally).
  • Keep current on information related to School Improvement for the purpose of providing instruction that is supported by research-based practices.
  • Assist teachers in analyzing test data and student work to plan instruction that targets identified needs.
  • Provide collaborative support to teachers through problem solving, modeling lessons, scheduling opportunities for peer observations, and conducting mini-training sessions.
  • Work closely with the principal in planning, implementing, and assessing school improvement efforts to create a learning environment that supports academic achievement for all students.
  • Maintain good daily attendance and punctuality to ensure the goals of the team can be met.
  • Support a professional environment that is of mutual respect, teamwork, and accountability.
  • Create and develop professional learning aligned to the identified needs of the school.
  • Build rapport with teachers, students and community.
  • Communicate clearly and concisely using both written and oral methods.
  • Design and model instructional interventions that address specific student learning needs.
  • Work collaboratively with other instructional leaders and district leaders.
  • Use data to make decisive decisions regarding best practices.
  • Perform other related duties, as assigned, for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
EXPERIENCE
  • Knowledge of curriculum guidelines for Ypsilanti Community Schools and the Michigan Academic Standards.
  • Effective oral, written, and interpersonal communication; coordinating and collaborating with departments to establish and execute responsibilities; computer skills including electronic mail, record keeping, spreadsheets, student data management systems, internet navigation and related software applications; and management skills gained through multitasking and coaching.
  • Ability to plan and develop courses suitable for specific grade levels; develop lesson plans incorporating projects, group discussions, exhibits, field trips, audiovisual and library resources, computers and the internet; use relevant computer applications; prioritizes tasks; and manages multiple assignments simultaneously.
