Job Description

Title: Instructional Assistant – Special Education

Department: E. C. Glass High School

Salary Grade: Schedule A, Schedule B

FLSA Status: Non‑exempt

Site/Location: E. C. Glass High School

Reports to: Building Administrators

Position Summary
  • Works collaboratively with special education and classroom teachers, as well as other professionals, to support the academic and social/emotional growth of students, including IEP goals, objectives, and/or accommodations.
Essential Functions
  • Works with individual or small groups of students to reinforce learning objectives and standards.
  • Assists with small group learning activities.
  • Provides instructional support during online learning.
  • Assists with the development of students’ social/emotional skills.
  • Supports students in learning classroom/school routines and procedures.
  • Provides supervision and a safe environment for students during structured and unstructured times such as lunch, recess, transitions, loading/unloading of buses, and any other assigned duties.
  • Maintains a positive, professional, solution‑focused demeanor at all times.
  • Maintains confidentiality.

Education and Experience
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Minimum of sixty (60) credit hours from an accredited post‑secondary institution or career technical facility; or an Associate’s Degree; or completed the ParaPro assessment.
  • Some experience in working with children.

  • This position requires periods of standing; some walking, moving, climbing, carrying, bending, kneeling, crawling, reaching, handling, pushing, and pulling. Ability to lift 25 lbs.
