DEARINGTON Elementary School in Lynchburg, VA is seeking an Instructional Assistant - Title I to support classroom teachers and students in meeting instructional goals. This 10-month position includes full benefits and operates under the supervision of the building administrator.

Instructional Assistant - Title I GENERAL INFORMATION Title: Instructional Assistant -Title I Department: Dearington Elementary School Salary Grade:Schedule A or B FLSA Status: Non-exempt Site/Location: Dearington Elementary School Reports to: Building Administrator Date: 7/27/2026

POSITION SUMMARY

  • Performs responsible human support and paraprofessional work while assisting classroom teachers or other professionals to achieve instructional objectives; and while assisting students with achieving established goals.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Assists classroom teacher in performing specific duties as assigned or undertaking specialized tasks to achieve and enhance instructional objectives.
  • Works with individuals or small groups to reinforce learning objectives introduced by teacher.
  • Provides programmed practice activities and repetitions as developed by teacher.
  • Assists with large and small group activities.
  • Guides independent study and other work assigned by teacher.
  • Reports student problems to the teacher and assists with student problems.
  • Assists with loading and unloading buses.
  • Supervises students during unstructured time such as lunch, recess and transitions.
  • Assists with student routines.
  • Performs related work as required.
  • Assist in establishing and maintaining standards of student behavior.
  • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Assist in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct.
  • Help maintain order in the classroom; monitors students to keep them on task.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • High School Diploma or GED.

  • Prior experience working with children preferred.
