Instructional Assistant – Special Ed Self-Contained (Part-time)
Responsible for providing instructional assistance in a classroom setting and translating oral and written communications.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED
- At least two (2) years (60 semester hours) of study at a postsecondary institution (attach transcript; 100 level coursework and above)
- Associate's degree or higher
- Passing score on an ADE-approved assessment (attach score report)
- Valid Arizona IVP Fingerprint Card
- Optional certifications (ParaPro, ACT Workkeys – requires Business Writing, Applied Math & Reading Comprehension results, Master Teacher's Para Educator Learning Network)
Performance Responsibilities
- Assist the teacher with classroom instruction and support students during instructional activities.
- Monitor students’ behavior inside and outside the classroom.
- Assist with clean‑up and other related tasks following daily activities.
- Prepare the classroom for activities, including organizing assignments and preparing homework folders.
- Create bulletin boards, maintain materials and supplies, contact parents, and make copies as needed.
- Attend in‑service training sessions.
- Perform other duties of a similar nature or level.
- Set up and maintain a computer lab, schedule classes, assist students with computer use and handling disks.
- Translate oral and written communications.
- Administer and grade a variety of tests.
- Assist students with limited or no English skills.
- Assist with book selection, check books in and out of the library, and repair damaged books.
- Help set up and assist with physical‑education related activities and evaluate student proficiency.
- Typical physical requirements: stooping, reaching, pulling, lifting, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions.
- Medium work: exert up to 50 lb. of force occasionally, up to 20 lb. frequently, up to 10 lb. constantly to move objects.
- Incumbents may be exposed to blood and other body fluids.
Knowledge and Skills
- Knowledge of applicable federal, state, county, and city statutes, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
- Knowledge of Cartwright School District and departmental policies and procedures.
- Basic reading, writing, and mathematical skills.
- Monitoring and assisting children with activities.
- Communication and interpersonal skills sufficient to exchange or convey information and receive work direction.
