Job Summary

The Center for Civic Engagement, which administers the Civic Engagement and Responsibility Minor, (an Interdisciplinary Studies Minor) seeks to build a pool of non-tenure track instructor applicants to be drawn from during the 2025-2026 academic year. Applications are accepted and reviewed as vacancies become available. There may not be an actual vacancy at the time you apply. Positions are part-time and may only be for one semester at a time, depending on School needs.
These positions are represented by the Illinois State University Education Association and may have associated dues or fees.

Additional Information

Illinois State University offers major and minor programs in Interdisciplinary Studies that allow students to synthesize knowledge that spans two or more academic disciplines. Illinois State’s core values are at the heart of the Civic Engagement and Responsibility minor. This interdisciplinary minor prepares students to enact social change and develop an awareness of personal social responsibility, including active community engagement. Students in the minor collaborate with community partners to create a more just and equitable world. The minor gives students opportunities to sharpen their analysis of social issues, practice public problem-solving skills, reflect on civic engagement experiences with an appreciation for individual and community strengths, and enact a commitment to ethical civic action. The minor includes a special Urban Teacher Preparation concentration for teacher education majors (at any level/discipline) interested in preparing to teach in urban communities.
The Center for Civic Engagement supports our core value of civic engagement through programs, resources, and administrative support for campus initiatives like the American Democracy Project and the Civic Engagement and Responsibility minor.

Salary Rate / Pay Rate

Non-terminal degree for Fall 2025 and Spring 2026 will be paid a $1250/month. Terminal degree minimum will be $1375/month based on part-time equivalent for a 3 credit hour class.

Required Qualifications
  1. Master's degree or higher.
  2. Three years teaching experience in a field related to civic engagement and/or related professional education experience.
  3. A commitment to Illinois State University’s core values.
  4. Excellent interpersonal communication skills and a commitment to student success.
  5. State law mandates demonstrable oral proficiency in the English language as a requirement for this position.
Preferred Qualifications
  1. Master's degree in related field and college teaching experience.
  2. Experience using CANVAS.
