Job summary

McKinley Youth Family and Community is hiring an Instructional Assistant to support classroom teachers and meet students’ academic, behavioral, and social-emotional needs. Responsibilities include direct instructional support, behavior intervention, data collection, and supervising students with consistency and care.

Responsibilities also include curb-to-curb transportation support and potential substitute teaching when qualified, across multiple school sites in Southern California.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree strongly preferred.
  • Experience working with students with learning, emotional and behavioral disabilities preferred.
  • Proficiency in Google Workspace and Microsoft Office Suite.

Responsibilities

  • Provide instructional support in a variety of academic areas.
  • Follow through on intervention plans with children with consistency and professionalism.
  • Fill in as a substitute teacher if qualified.
  • Work in several classrooms with varying ages and grade levels.
  • Assist in classroom management, crisis response and physical restraint as trained.
  • Provide tutoring to students in small groups or one on one.
  • Follow through on behavior and academic intervention plans.
  • Collaborate with classroom teacher and other staff members.
  • Provide transportation for community based students to and from school.
  • Perform transportation duties as a driver and/or rider on a van route.
  • Maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries.

The Position

The role of the Instructional Assistant is to support the classroom teacher in addressing the academic behavioral and social emotional needs of all students Responsibilities include direct instructional support behavior intervention implementation data collection student supervision and follow through on intervention plans with consistency and care Instructional Assistants are also responsible for curb to curb student transportation support

The pay range were offering is 1800 2200 hourly depending Based on experience

Qualifications
  • Bachelors degree is strongly preferred
  • Experience working with students with learning emotional and behavioral disabilities autism spectrum speech and communication disorders preferred
  • Proficient in Google Workspace and Microsoft Office Suite and other office related software
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Able to work independently and as a self starter with minimal supervision
  • General administrative and clerical abilities
  • Highly organized and detail oriented
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to demonstrate professionalism patience empathy and courtesy
  • Must pass a pre employment physical examination tuberculosis TB test and drug screening
  • Ability to commute to various school sites based on program needs
  • Must successfully complete and maintain certification in Pro ACT
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and physically assist move or restrain students as necessary to ensure safety and support
  • Ability to perform physical duties including standing sitting lifting carrying and providing mobility or personal care to students dressing hygiene toileting etc
  • Visual and auditory acuity to perform instructional duties and monitor student safety
  • Manual dexterity is required for using instructional tools technology and supporting students with assistive devices
  • May be required to perform prolonged work at a computer for documentation planning and communication purposes
  • Ability to work extended hours as needed

Key Responsibilities

  • Set limits and intervene appropriately to meet the needs of the children and families served
  • Provide transportation for community based students to and from school
  • Ability to perform transportation duties as a driver and or a rider on a van route
  • Collaborate with counseling or behavioral staff and implement feedback
  • Collect and document behavioral and academic data as directed
  • Providing toileting assistance to students as needed
  • Maintain confidentiality and appropriate professional boundaries at all times
  • Represent the agency in a professional respectful manner when interacting with internal and external stakeholders
  • Complete all onboarding requirements within the designated time frame and remain in compliance with agency expectations for timely review and acknowledgment of policies procedures and trainings
  • Perform all other related duties and responsibilities as assigned
