INSTRUCTIONAL ASSISTANT 1- LIBRARY

GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF POSITION

Perform all duties necessary for the daily operation of the library, e-library, and maintenance of collections. Assists the Librarian as needed, and provide general supervision of students at all times in
the building, specifically during assigned duty times.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Perform circulation functions using an automated software program which checks books in and out, keeps records of what each student has checked out, and calculates overdue fines.
  • Maintain software program of all catalog information on every item in the library, including A/V equipment, videos, and periodicals.
  • Shelve books after they are checked in, sorting them into one of three categories.
  • Assist students in finding books, either a specific title they are looking for or a subject they are researching.
  • Assist teacher with locating research materials, links, or specific books, and assist them in obtaining A/V equipment.
  • Maintain inventory, including searching for lost books, repairing damaged books, cataloging new books, maintain audio/visual equipment and general straightening of the shelves and check-out area.
  • Assist in the instruction of students regarding library procedures; sometimes dealing with parents in regard to the same issues.
  • Communicate with teachers effectively, including e-mail regarding students' overdue items, and notifying them when a student's reserved book has come in.
  • Supervise students, enforcing rules of behavior both in the library and in the school building.
  • Assist with the implementation of the Accelerated Reader Program.
  • Track library expenses as necessary.
  • Provide relief to teachers for breaks as scheduled and answer phone calls to the library.
  • Perform any other related duties as required or assigned.
