Job summary

MARK TWAIN ELEMENTARY in Silverton, Oregon, is hiring an Instructional Assistant II for a 7-hour day. The role supports students with diverse needs in structured and specialized settings, fostering independence and skill development across academic, social, and vocational areas.

The position works with licensed staff to deliver and adapt instruction, implement IEPs, and collaborate with teachers and specialists.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Associate’s degree or 2 years of college coursework or ability to pass district assessment.
  • Two years of experience in special education preferred.
  • First Aid/CPR certification or ability to obtain.

Responsibilities

  • Support implementation of individualized instruction and behavior plans for students in special programs.
  • Assist teachers and specialists with designing and reinforcing instructional strategies tailored to student needs.
  • Deliver or support academic and functional instruction in one‑on‑one and small group settings.
  • Assist with implementation of IEPs and participate in team/IEP meetings as appropriate.
  • Provide instructional, behavioral, and social‑emotional support across school and community‑based environments.
  • Support student transition and job coaching activities in community or work‑based settings (CTP program).
  • Supervise and support students across all school environments to ensure safety and engagement.
  • Assist with student behavior support, including de‑escalation strategies and approved physical intervention when required.
  • Provide personal care support as needed, including feeding, hygiene, mobility, and medical protocols per student plans.
  • Assist with assessment, recordkeeping, progress monitoring, and clerical tasks related to student learning and IEPs.
  • Maintain confidentiality, professionalism, and compliance with all district, state, and federal requirements.
  • Participate in ongoing training, certification, and professional development as required.

Job Description

We are seeking a skilled, compassionate, and student-centered Instructional Assistant II to support students with diverse learning, behavioral, developmental, and physical needs in structured and specialized learning environments. This role is ideal for individuals who are committed to inclusive education and who thrive in collaborative, hands‑on support roles that make a meaningful difference in students’ daily success.

This position primarily supports programs such as Structured Learning, Functional Skills, Basic Skills, and Community Transition, and plays a key role in helping students build academic, social, life, and vocational skills for increased independence.

Position Summary

The Instructional Assistant II works under the direction of licensed staff and program specialists to provide individualized and small‑group instructional support in special education and related settings. In addition to duties of an Instructional Assistant I, this role includes increased collaboration with teachers and specialists, direct implementation of specially designed instruction, and support of students across multiple environments, including classroom, community, and work‑based settings.

Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Must meet Federal “Highly Qualified” requirements: Associate’s degree or 2 years of college coursework, or Ability to pass a district academic and instructional support assessment
  • Two (2) years of experience working in special education or supporting individuals with disabilities (preferred)
  • First Aid/CPR certification (or ability to obtain)
Pay & Benefits
  • Hourly wage: $18.97 - 24.73 (Column I, Classified Wage Schedule)
