ACHS - Chance for Change Academy in Alexandria, VA seeks an Instructional Assistant I to support teachers in small-group instruction, monitor student behavior, and assist with clerical tasks. This role starts immediately and offers hourly compensation based on experience.

Qualifications

Education: 48 college credits or an AA degree; able to demonstrate college-level skills in spelling, reading, writing and math via proficiency test.
Experience: job-related experience required; bilingual preferred.
Certificates & Licenses: None required; Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) encouraged.

Responsibilities

Administers first aid as required to provide immediate care.
Assists children with disabilities on and off the bus.
Assists students with breakfast, lunch, snack, clean-up and personal hygiene.
Implements instructional programs and lesson plans under supervision.
Monitors students to maintain a safe and positive learning environment.
Performs record-keeping and clerical tasks in support of staff.
Provides feedback to inform teachers and parents about students' progress.
Reports observations and incidents to instructional/administrative personnel.
Performs other related duties to ensure efficient operations.

The Instructional Assistant I assists the classroom teacher with maintaining classroom order; presents direct instruction of supplied materials primarily in small groups; performs classroom clerical tasks; and monitors student behavior during non-classroom time.

Qualifications

Education:48 college credits or an AA degree, or be able to demonstrate college level skills in spelling, reading, writing and math, by passing a proficiency test.
Experience:Job related experience is required. Bilingual preferred.
Certificates & Licenses:None required. Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) encouraged.

Essential Functions

Administers first aid as required to provide immediate care.
Assists children with disabilities on and off the bus.
Assists students with breakfast, lunch, snack, clean-up, lavatory, clothing, personal hygiene, and wash-up.
Implements (under the supervision of the teacher) instructional programs and lesson plans.
Monitors students during assigned periods within a variety of school environments (e.g. restrooms, playgrounds, hallways, bus loading zones, cafeteria, parking lots, etc.) to provide a safe and positive learning environment.
Performs record-keeping and clerical functions (e.g. scheduling, copying, etc.) in support of the teacher and/or administrator.
Provides verbal feedback and/or written documentation to inform teacher(s) and/or parents of students’ progress.
Reports observations and incidents relating to specific students (e.g. accidents, fights, inappropriate social behavior, violations of rules, safety conditions, etc.) to appropriate instructional and/or administrative personnel.
Performs other related duties, as assigned, to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.

Compensation

Compensation: Hourly wage$19.76to$24.31an hour, (Additional factors in calculation, including hours, # of days, etc.)
