Job summary

Black Hills Special Services Cooperative (BHSSC) is seeking an energetic Instructional Assistant to support K-5 and club-style programs in Philip, SD. The role emphasizes mentorship, safety, and engaging activities after school.

The position offers a part-time schedule (20 hours/week), with shifts Monday through Friday from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm, following Haakon County School District calendar. Prior experience with youth programs is a plus.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 14 years old.
• Must pass a background check.
• Work study participation welcome from SDSMT, NAU, WDT, or BHSU.

Responsibilities

• Implement activities as directed by Site Coordinator.
• Develop activities as identified by the Site Coordinator.
• Monitor students and apply appropriate behavior management.
• Engage students with positive, age-appropriate interactions and act as a role model.
• Attend staff meetings and training events.
• Complete daily program setup, recess duty, janitorial duties and cleanup.

Black Hills Special Services Cooperative (BHSSC) is a public entity that is an educational cooperative under the State of South Dakota. BHSSC is comprised of five divisions dedicated to aiding school districts, individuals, and the communities. BHSSC is seeking an energetic, creative Instructional Assistant who is passionate about education and mentorship.

Wage

• $15.48 per hour

Job Type

• Part-Time, Non-Exempt
• Expected hours: 20 per week
• Mon-Fri, 2:00 pm - 6:00 pm (One Early Release Friday per month - 1:00pm-6:00pm). We follow the Haakon County School District calendar.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Implement activities as requested by Site Coordinator.
• Develop activities as identified or requested by the Site Coordinator.
• Monitor students and implement appropriate behavior management strategies.
• Engage students in positive, age-appropriate interactions. Staff will be positive role models, guiding students towards positive life choices.
• Participate in staff meetings and staff training events.
• Complete assigned duties, including daily program set up, recess duty, janitorial duties, and clean up.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

• Work study from SDSMT, NAU, WDT, and BHSU welcome
• Must be able to lift 40-50 pounds on occasion and bend, stoop, and kneel occasionally.
