Job summary

An educational organization in Shamokin is seeking a full-time Instructional Assistant. This role involves supporting the teacher in reinforcing instruction to students with emotional/behavioral disorders, assisting with classroom management, and providing emotional support. Job description

Behavioral Health Associates (BHA) is an educational organization. We offer an academic learning environment integrated with behavior support services for students diagnosed with emotional/behavioral disorders to empower the students in overcoming challenges and creating new stories in their lives.

We currently have anticipated openings for full-time Instructional Assistants at our Shamokin Campus:

POSITION GOAL

Under the direction of the program director, assist the teacher in reinforcing instruction to individuals or small groups of students, including monitoring and reporting student progress.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES
  • Support and maintain classroom policies.
  • Tutor individuals or small groups of students, reinforcing instruction as directed by the teacher.
  • Assist in the administering and scoring a variety of tests according to student performance and behavior.
  • Perform routine clerical duties; operate classroom and office equipment including computers, copy machines, and other equipment.
  • Provide support to the teacher by setting up work areas, displays and exhibits, operating audio-visual equipment, operating educational training equipment and distributing and collecting paper and supplies.
  • Assist students by providing proper examples, emotional support, a friendly attitude, and general guidance.
  • Direct group activities of students assigned; assist in monitoring students as directed.
  • Confer, as needed, with teachers concerning programs and materials to meet student needs.
  • Participate in meetings and in-service training programs as assigned.
  • Assist in establishing Restorative Circles and implement the theory behind Restorative Practices in the classroom daily.
  • Assist in academic and behavioral charting, establishing classroom rules, and enforcing the TALID System.
  • Other duties as assigned by Administration.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Paraeducator experience from a previous school or agency, preferred.
  • Experience in working with children/students, preferred.
  • Ability to develop and maintain positive working relationships with staff and leadership team, while maintaining professional boundaries.
  • Positively represent and promote BHA services to outside organizations.
  • Maintain confidentiality in all matters.
  • Ability to work both independently and as a team.
  • Communicate effectively utilizing both written and oral communication.
  • Basic computer literacy with Microsoft/Office 365 (Word, Excel, Teams, SharePoint, etc.).
  • Effectively utilize technology for communication and reporting needs.
