Anticipated: Preschool 6.5 Hrs/Day

Title: Instructional Assistant (including Preschool, Title I and Special Education) (Level I, II, III)

Qualifications:

• Level I: High School diploma or GED
• Level II: Minimum of 48 college credit hours or an Associate’s degree, or Level I plus 50 hours of professional learning
• Level III: Bachelor’s Degree
• Title I Instructional Assistant: Must pass a rigorous assessment like the Kentucky Paraeducator Assessment (KPA)
• Knowledge of and ability to assist in reading, writing, and mathematics instruction
• Meet physical examination requirements
• Effective communication skills with students, staff, parents, and community

Reports to: Principal and supervising teacher

Supervises: None

Job Goal: To create a well-organized, functional classroom environment supporting student learning

Performance Responsibilities:

• Tutor students and maintain progress records
• Participate in instructional and remediation teams; develop relationships with parents and team members
• Assist with testing, scoring, and monitoring student IEPs
• Monitor student behavior and report progress
• Perform clerical duties and maintain classroom records
• Support teachers with setup, materials, and equipment
• Implement safety, behavioral, and instructional strategies
• Assist students with health-related procedures as needed
• Ensure student health and safety, including de-escalation techniques
• Read to students and assist with instructional content mastery
• Help with routines, organization, and classroom equipment
• Participate in meetings and training
• Supervise students during various activities and emergencies
• Maintain regular attendance
• Perform other duties as assigned

Physical Demands:

• Lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 pounds
• Prolonged standing and climbing

Terms of Employment:

• 185 days per year
• Salary based on level (G2, G5, G10)
• FLSA: Non-exempt

Evaluation: Annually by Principal and supervising teacher
