High School Credit Recovery Instructional Assistant Job Description

Job Title: Instructional Assistant (High School Credit Recovery)

FLSA Classification: Non-exempt, hourly employee.

Work Days: 181 days (when students are scheduled to attend school).

Standard Hours Per Day: 7 hours (excluding a 30-minute unpaid meal break).

Work Year: The schedule aligns with the school calendar when students attend.

Salary & Benefits: Paid on the "Instructional Assistants" salary schedule, level 4, with benefits on the "Support Staff" schedule. Starting hourly rate: $21.63.

Reports To: Supervised by teachers; both report to the building Principal.

Supervises: Does not supervise other employees.

General Description of Duties

Under supervision, supports in an educational environment, assisting teachers and students, managing an integrated learning system, and providing support in various program areas to help students attain credits. Responsible for leading activities and supervising students as directed.

Essential Functions
  • Introduce students to computer hardware and software to enhance skills.
  • Manage activities on the integrated learning system, including setup, operation, and maintenance.
  • Conduct equipment checks to ensure proper functioning.
  • Prepare newsletters about software applications used in the district.
  • Monitor student behavior during credit recovery sessions to ensure safety and discipline.
  • Maintain hardware, software, and materials; coordinate schedules with teachers.
  • Explain and reinforce computer activities and skills to students.
  • Assist teachers in evaluating student work and reinforce skills in small groups or individually.
  • Help manage student behavior and enforce rules.
  • Identify and resolve minor system issues, coordinate repairs.
  • Report hardware/software problems and coordinate repairs.
  • Monitor student progress, communicate with teachers, and document activities.
  • Assist in preparing instructional materials and media.
  • May perform monitoring duties in hallways, lunchrooms, or buses; escort students as needed.
  • Assist in labs, translate lesson plans, and stay current with technology.
  • Attend training to maintain skill levels.
  • Maintain accurate and timely information records.
Non-essential Functions

Perform related duties as directed.

Entry-level Requirements
  • Education: High School diploma or GED required; associate’s degree or higher preferred.
  • Experience: Prior work with school-age children preferred; knowledge of Canvas and Edmentum helpful.
  • Certifications: Meet paraprofessional requirements, pass background checks, and the ParaPro Assessment or equivalent.
  • Other: Ability to perform essential functions with or without accommodations.
Performance Aptitudes
  • Data review and classification.
  • Provide guidance and assistance to others.
  • Operate computer equipment and peripherals.
  • Utilize reference and advisory data effectively.
  • Perform basic math and interpret graphs.
  • Follow detailed instructions and exercise judgment in changing situations.
Physical and Environmental Requirements

Moderate physical effort, including lifting up to 20 pounds, and visual and oral perception. Tasks performed mostly in a safe environment without exposure to adverse conditions.
