Position Title: Instructional Aide 3, Part-time [Applicant Pool]
Division/Department: Accessibility Resources
Job Summary: Provides notetaking services and classroom assistance to assigned students with disabilities attending LBCC classes.
Required Qualifications:
Knowledge and Skills:
- Requires strong reading, writing and note taking skills.
- Must have operational knowledge of general office equipment including laptop computers.
- Requires strong customer relations skills.
Abilities:
- Requires the ability to perform the duties of the position efficiently and effectively.
- Must be familiar with computer use and word processing.
- Ability to type rapidly and accurately is preferred.
- Should have demonstrated ability to understand, comprehend, and paraphrase from lectures within various class settings, including group activities.
- Must be able to work respectfully with individuals of all cultures, backgrounds, perspectives, and abilities.
Education and Experience:
- Position requires a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Requires successful note taking experience. Must have overall GPA of 2.5 or higher.
Physical Skills and Abilities:
- Requires arm, hand, and finger dexterity to operate keyboard or other office equipment.
- Requires visual acuity to read words and numbers and sufficient hearing and well-developed speaking ability to communicate with staff and students.
Working Conditions:
- Work is normally performed indoors with minimal exposure to safety and health hazards.
- Takes accurate and comprehensive notes using a laptop computer, including detailed lecture materials, assignments and important discussion aspects. Outlines and organizes notes in a manner which provides ease of access for the student.
- Assists the student in the classroom, as appropriate, with the manipulation of materials and the description of visual aids and examples. Indicates homework assignments and assures the student has necessary information and materials distributed in relation to assignments.
- Provides physical and verbal support when the disability inhibits the student's ability to directly perform classroom assignments.
- Treats students in a manner that contributes to increased self-esteem and the development of effective self-advocacy skills.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
