Position Summary

This faculty member will provide instruction, reference services, and research assistance to faculty, students, staff, and community members. This faculty member will also coordinate and lead the Unit’s point-of-need reference services, overseeing scheduling and developing strategies in collaboration with the Unit Head for Access and Engagement. As a member of the First Year Experience Team, this faculty member will collaborate with colleagues to plan, develop, and deliver information literacy instruction, research assistance, and outreach to first-year students in various settings and formats, with the goal of increasing student success and retention. They will teach multiple sessions of information literacy and library research instruction for English 102 courses, including both in-person and online components. Additionally, they will partner with teaching faculty and staff to provide information literacy instruction for other lower-division courses, offer tours and orientations, and participate in outreach and retention initiatives for prospective and first-year students. This faculty member will also support faculty across multiple colleges by integrating disciplinary resources into research and instruction programs and contributing expertise to new campus initiatives. Liaison responsibilities with colleges, academic programs, and/or student groups may be included. In addition to teaching and service, this faculty member will maintain a productive research agenda, including presentations, publications, and/or pursuit of external funding. Their scholarship must be validated through external peer review and contribute to a portfolio of regional, national, or international impact. They will actively participate in relevant professional organizations. Service and leadership responsibilities include contributing expertise in information literacy to university-wide projects, engaging in policy-making and University and Library committee work, sharing insights gained from professional activities with library colleagues, and applying that knowledge to improve unit operations. This fiscal year faculty position is a tenure-track or tenured appointment. It is open to candidates at the rank of assistant or associate professor. Rank and tenure are negotiable based on how the candidate meets the criteria outlined in the college bylaws.

Required Qualifications

Master’s degree from an ALA -accredited library program or the equivalent. Course work in or experience with reference and/or instruction; Experience applying or utilizing contemporary library technology and techniques within course work or when assisting library users; Experience developing and delivering presentations online and in-person; Experience and skills with technology, including but not limited to, creating and maintaining web-based products and digital instructional materials, Experience in public service; Experience working independently and collaboratively in a collegial environment.

Preferred Qualifications

Reference and instruction experience in an academic library; Demonstration of creativity or innovation in library services; Strong commitment to public service; Enthusiastic commitment to teaching and interacting with undergraduates; Knowledge of assessment methods and activities used in reference and/or library instruction.
