Job summary

Missouri Department of Corrections is seeking qualified candidates for an investigative role focused on corrections-related investigations and compliance. You will interview staff, victims, and witnesses, compile comprehensive case files, and analyze data from multiple sources to support prosecutions and agency actions.

The position emphasizes meticulous documentation, adherence to chain-of-custody standards, and coordination with prosecutors.

Qualifications

• Four or more years of correctional experience; and possession of a high school diploma or proof of high school equivalency.
• OR: Four or more years of experience in financial or resources investigations, civil, administrative, or criminal investigative experience; or as a law enforcement officer; and possession of a high school diploma or proof of high school equivalency.
• Earned credit hours from an accredited college or university may substitute on a year-for-year basis for a maximum of three years of the required experience.

Responsibilities

• Conducts investigations of suspected violations and incidents; interviews staff, victims, and witnesses to obtain evidence and write case summaries
• Compiles and analyzes information regarding victims, witnesses, and persons suspected of violating statutes; analyzes records, assets, and employment data
• Locates individuals and organizations to obtain evidence and maintains chain of custody standards
• Assists in arranging payment of taxes due or fines, or repayment of fraud funds
• Examines and analyzes records to secure information on suspected violations of laws and regulations
• Collects, assembles, and preserves facts and statements for use in legal actions; reviews background investigations
• Uses a database to enter, update, and track complaints and investigations
• Acts as liaison to prosecutors and other agencies; testifies in proceedings
• Exercises independence in performance and performs related work as assigned

• Compiles and analyzes: information regarding victims, witnesses, and persons suspected of violating statutes, policies and/or procedures, or program requirements administered by the assigned agency; documentary information relative to business operations, financial assets, real and personal property, and employment and wages; information related to suspected cases of fraudulent receipt of public assistance, child support, medical assistance, Medicaid vendor funds or similar payments, or improper or unlawful activities resulting in the diversion of controlled drugs
• Locates individuals and representatives of business or governmental entities to obtain evidence of suspected violations and adheres to chain of custody standards
• Assists in making arrangements for the payment of taxes due or ordered fines, or the repayment of fraudulently obtained funds
• Examines and analyzes a variety of records to secure information concerning suspected violations of federal and state laws and or regulations
• Collects, assembles, and preserves facts, statements, affidavits, and other evidence for use in legal actions; reviews background investigations and prepares detailed reports of investigative findings
• Utilizes database for entering, updating, and tracking complaints and investigations
• Serves as liaison to prosecuting attorney’s offices and other governmental and law enforcement agencies; testifies in criminal, civil, or administrative proceedings
• Exercises independence in performance of responsibilities, receives general administrative direction and performs other related work as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

Four or more years of correctional experience; and possession of a high school diploma or proof of high school equivalency.

OR

Four or more years of experience in financial or resources investigations, civil, administrative, or criminal investigative experience (e.g. tax fraud, licensing, environmental, client care, public assistance, insurance, or military); or as a law enforcement officer; and possession of a high school diploma or proof of high school equivalency

(Earned credit hours from an accredited college or university may substitute on a year-for-year basis for a maximum for three years of the required experience at a rate of 30 earned credit hours for one year – a minimum of one year of the listed experience is required)

Contingent upon your position, you may also be eligible to receive:

• A $2.00 per hour shift differential if you are assigned to a shift that begins on or between 12:00pm (noon) and 5:00am and are employed at a 24/7 congregate care facility (i.e. institution, transition center, supervision center, or command center).
• A $0.75 per hour medium security or $1.50 maximum security differential if you work full-time at a qualifying facility.
• A $1.00 per hour restrictive housing differential if you are assigned a regular post within a restrict housing/segregation unit at any facility.

The Department of Corrections currently offers a guaranteed 1% pay increase for every two years of continuous service up to 20 years! If you are transferring from another State of Missouri agency and are receiving state retention pay, please be advised that the Missouri Department of Corrections administers retention based upon your retention anniversary date. As a result, your retention pay upon transfer may differ from what you were receiving at your previous agency until you reach your applicable retention anniversary date.
