Job summary

The Missouri Department of Corrections is seeking staff for a classifications and offender services role in Missouri. The position supports classification teams, verifies information from offenders, and prepares analyses for program eligibility determinations using AICS, RCA, and ICA instruments.

The role also involves serving as grievance officer, handling IRRs and disciplinary hearings, processing offender files, and assisting in vocational and educational planning to facilitate community

Qualifications

  • Four or more years of experience as a Probation & Parole Assistant, Correctional Officer, or Office Support Assistant or above within the Missouri Department of Corrections.
  • Four or more years of vocational or paraprofessional experience in social services, probation and parole, corrections casework/custody, law enforcement, guidance/counseling, mental health, health, substance use, public/business administration, or experience closely related to the listed responsibilities
  • Earned credit hours from an accredited college or university may substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required experience at a rate of 30 earned credit hours for one year

Responsibilities

  • Serves on a classification team; evaluates the offender’s institutional adjustment attitude toward society and release plans, prepares ; makes recommendations relative to ORAS & Case planning assignments/facility transfers/disciplinary actions
  • Secures and verifies information from incarcerated adult offenders concerning their home life/family relationships/work history/other pertinent personal and social factors; develops/maintains/reviews classification files
  • Assesses classification status/prepares analysis for program eligibility determinations using Adult Internal Classification System (AICS), Reclassification Analysis (RCA), and Initial Classification Analysis (ICA) instruments
  • Acts as grievance officer; processes and responds to Informal Resolution Requests (IRRs); holds disciplinary hearings on conduct violations; participates in treatment team meetings
  • Processes offenders: completing initial file review/protective custody assessment/enters enemy waivers/updates enemy lists
  • Maintains open-door office policy; handles offender’s laundry/property/financial concerns/mail and censorship notices/notifies offenders of critical illness/death of immediate family members
  • Participates/assists in assigned offender’s vocational, educational, and social adjustment planning; facilitates offender programs; evaluates civilian visiting applications and determines whether to approve or deny the individual’s request to visit with offender; provides pre-release counseling; researches and identifies community resources/services prior to processing offenders for release
  • Cooperates with public/private agencies/law enforcement agencies in matters relating to assigned offenders, arranges/facilitates calls to attorneys, public agencies, and law enforcement agencies
  • Performs work in accordance with established rules and regulations; receives close administrative direction and performs other related work duties as assigned

Job description

The annual salary listed for this position includes the additional $0.75 per hour medium security differential ($1,560 annually) for all full-time positions domiciled in a medium-security institution.

Minimum Qualifications:

Four or more years of experience as a Probation & Parole Assistant, Correctional Officer, or Office Support Assistant or above within the Missouri Department of Corrections. OR

Four or more years of vocational or paraprofessional experience in social services, probation and parole, corrections casework/custody, law enforcement, guidance/counseling, mental health, health, substance use, public/business administration, or experience closely related to the listed responsibilities

All requested documents MUST be received by the closing date listed.

Contingent upon your position, you may also be eligible to receive:

  • A $2.00 per hour shift differential if you are assigned to a shift that begins on or between 12:00pm (noon) and 5:00am and are employed at a 24/7 congregate care facility (i.e. institution, transition center, supervision center, or command center).
  • A $1.00 per hour restrictive housing differential if you are assigned a regular post within a restrict housing/segregation unit at any facility.

The Department of Corrections currently offers a guaranteed 1% pay increase for every two years of continuous service up to 20 years! If you are transferring from another State of Missouri agency and are receiving state retention pay, please be advised that the Missouri Department of Corrections administers retention based upon your retention anniversary date. As a result, your retention pay upon transfer may differ from what you were receiving at your previous agency until you reach your applicable retention anniversary date.
