Job summary

The Center for Brooklyn History (CBH), a unit of the Brooklyn Public Library, seeks a Processing Archivist to survey, arrange, rehouse, and describe archival materials, including born-digital records, using ArchivesSpace and current standards.

Responsibilities include budgeting, developing processing plans, and engaging in outreach to promote the project, reporting to the Archives Manager. A Master’s in Library Science with an archives concentration is required.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Library and Information Science with an archives concentration or equivalent.
• 2-3 years archival arrangement and description experience.
• Knowledge of current archival standards (DACS, EAD) and born-digital materials.
• Experience with handwritten materials and cataloging.

Responsibilities

• Survey, process, rehouse, arrange, and describe archival collections using ArchivesSpace.
• Conduct item-level cataloging as needed.
• Create processing plans and workflows for digitized and born-digital assets.
• Identify items for digitization or conservation.
• Edit finding aids with appropriate levels of description.
• Lead and participate in programming and outreach about the project.
