Job summary

South Carolina Department of Corrections is seeking a facilities maintenance supervisor to plan, coordinate, and oversee daily and emergency maintenance programs for a Level III institution. The role includes developing maintenance plans, setting priorities, and leading a team of staff and inmate workers to ensure timely repairs and compliance with PM schedules.

The position requires an associate's degree and related professional experience.

Qualifications

• Thorough knowledge of trades being supervised.
• Experience in facilities maintenance, to include plumbing, electrical, and general construction is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Plan, develop, coordinate, implement and supervise daily and emergency maintenance and repair programs.
• Develop maintenance plans and procedures for buildings, utilities, grounds, installed equipment, etc.
• Determine requirements, set priorities, obtain materials and equipment, and assign work.
• Establish on-call procedures to respond to emergency maintenance and repair calls and ensure timely completion.
• Develop and implement a preventive maintenance program for the institution.
• Determine items requiring periodic preventive maintenance and develop PM checklists for each item.
• Schedule and follow up to ensure preventive maintenance is completed as required.
• Develop plan and cost estimates, determine schedule, and obtain required materials, supplies, and equipment.
• Select, orient, train new employees and inmate tradeworkers and evaluate their performance.

• Develop plan and cost estimate, determine schedule, and obtain required materials, supplies, and equipment.

Must successfully complete four (4) weeks of SCDC Basic Training upon hire.

State of South Carolina Minimum Requirements:

An associate's degree and professional experience directly related to the area of employment.

SCDC Minimum Requirements:

• A high school diploma and 5 years professional experience related to the area of employment, one of which must be in a supervisory capacity.
• Thorough knowledge of trades being supervised.

Prefer professional experience in the principles and technique of facilities maintenance, to include plumbing, general construction, electrical, kitchen equipment, and operation of heavy equipment.
