REPORTING TO: Service Manager

EMPLOYMENT CLASSIFICATION: Non-exempt / hourly

GENERAL SUMMARY:

The Installation Technician (I.T.) lives VIP’s mission to EARN AUTOMOTIVE CUSTOMERS FOR LIFE by learning and living the VIP culture and following VIP processes to ensure that customers get a different & better experience. An I.T. must work effectively and safely to ensure good communication, teamwork, and operation in serving customers. The I.T. is responsible for effective repair and replacement of automotive tires, parts, fluids, and accessories and ensuring these services are done right the first time. An I.T. is expected to comply with company safety, loss prevention, and customer service programs as well as established policies and procedures and municipal, state, and federal regulations.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Workplace Safety: Prioritize safety by following all policies, completing safety training, locking out unsafe equipment, and reporting unsafe conditions.
  2. Automotive Services: Provide repairs and maintenance including Tire Services, Oil Changes, Under hood Services, MPIs, Wheel Alignments, and Preventive Maintenance.
  3. Work Orders: Initiate and display service work orders prior to service and complete them upon vehicle return.
  4. Vehicle Inspection: Complete MPIs and support the 5-for-5 Customer Engagement Process.
  5. Documentation: Ensure all service documentation is completed and returned with vehicle keys.
  6. Parts Handling: Obtain parts from the Desk Team and return unused parts and cores appropriately.
  7. Housekeeping and Safety: Maintain a clean work area, secure customer vehicles, and participate in safety programs.
  8. Training and Certification: Complete required training, obtain certifications such as ASE, T.I.A., and state inspections.
  9. Quality & Safety: Road test vehicles, maintain shop equipment, and participate in shop maintenance.
  10. Additional Responsibilities: Maintain technical skills, review time records, participate in team meetings, and ensure compliance with regulations.
  11. Facility Maintenance: Maintain the condition of the facility and equipment, and log issues.
  12. Procedural Compliance: Enforce compliance with the service code of ethics and regulations.
PERFORMANCE MEASUREMENT:
  • Maintain minimum 50% productivity (Billed Hours / Worked Hours).
  • Ensure work is done correctly the first time to minimize rework.
STANDARD MANAGEMENT WORK WEEK:

5 days, 40 hours/week. Be punctual and ready to work at scheduled times.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Ability to interpret technical instructions, explain vehicle issues to customers, diagnose basic problems, and perform automotive services.

Experience and Education: At least one year in automotive service, completion of a two-year college or technical program preferred, or equivalent experience.

Licenses and Certifications: Valid driver’s license, ASE certifications (G1, A4, A5), and state-specific inspections as required.

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Work is performed indoors in a service department with exposure to weather, noise, chemicals, and mechanical equipment. Protective eyewear is mandatory. Physical activities include reaching, standing, pushing, pulling, walking, climbing, kneeling, and lifting, with appropriate safety support.
