Job summary

A1 Garage Door Service is seeking an Installer in Reno, NV. This role involves installing residential garage doors, removing old systems, assembling parts, wiring, lubrication, and ensuring customer satisfaction.

Training is provided, and you will learn the customer experience that fuels our growth. Apprenticeship includes a 4-week training at the A1 Training Academy in Phoenix, AZ, with paid weeks at $20/hour and expected 45–50 hours per week.

Qualifications

  • Be nice and customer-friendly.
  • Able to bend, climb, kneel and stand for long periods.
  • Physically able to lift 75 lbs and door panels overhead.
  • Valid driver’s license with clean record for at least 3 years.
  • Able to pass pre-employment drug test and background check.
  • GED or HS diploma not required, reading and basic math required.

Responsibilities

  • Install new garage doors for residential customers.
  • Remove existing door and mechanical parts.
  • Replace worn/broken door parts using tools.
  • Assemble mechanical parts and install springs, sections, hardware.
  • Run wiring to connect equipment and lubricate moving parts.
  • Educate customers on upgrades and ensure satisfaction.
  • Document installation activities.

Installer job is physically demanding. Stamina and enthusiasm are required!

You don’t need to have experience with garage doors. Our team will train you on everything you need to know (including the customer experience, the key to our success), so you can thrive in your very own market.

The Job:
  • Install new garage doors for residential customers

  • Remove existing door and mechanical parts

  • Replace worn or broken door parts using tools

  • Assemble mechanical parts

  • Install springs, sections, slats, and hardware

  • Run wiring to connect equipment

  • Lubricate and test mechanical parts for proper functioning

  • Educate customers on upgraded parts and services and ensure satisfaction

  • Document activities related to installations

Basic Requirements:
  • Be nice! I know, we shouldn’t have to say that, but we mean it

  • Able to bend, climb, kneel and stand for long periods

  • Physically able to lift 75lbs, lift garage door panels above head

  • Able to stand on ladder

  • Basic knowledge of hand tools(Power drill, hammer, saw etc.)

  • Valid driver’s license for at least 3 years with a clean driving record

  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug test (not including THC) and criminal background check

  • Knowledge of basic software such as navigation apps, Google etc. as well as tablet and computer use

  • GED or HS diploma not required, however reading skills as well as basic math skills (measurements, payments) are required

  • Professional & approachable appearance

  • Employment requires current eligibility to legally work in the United States

The Journey of an Installer:
  • Our apprenticeship is a 4 week training program at the A1 Training Academy in Phoenix, AZ.

  • A1 covers flights and accommodations for the duration of your training in Phoenix. (All apprenticeship/training weeks are paid at anhourly rate of $20/hour. You will typically work 45-50 hours a week while an apprentice, and qualify for overtime for hours over 40 in a week, so should average $1,000 a week or more.)

  • Once you complete training, you will receive a $1,000 bonus, and graduate to a junior installer. You will perform your duties in and around your market. Boom!

  • Starting pay $36.75/hour (Piece Rate) + commission on additional sales/services

Interview Process:

Our interview process is not long, but it’s thorough. We want to make sure that each person who joins the team is the right fit for A1. And that we are the right fit for you!

  1. After we review your application, you will be contacted for an interview with a recruiter if we want to know more. Plan on up to 45 minutes.

  1. Next step is an interview with the Area manager. Plan on approximately 30 minutes.

  1. Next step is when the fun begins: you will be invited to ride along with one of our technicians so you can see what life at A1 is really like. Plan on ½ day.
