Job summary

Unity Systems is seeking a qualified High School Special Education Teacher for a 6-month contract in Chicago, IL. The role focuses on Social Studies with some Science, supporting students with Autism and other special needs.

The ideal candidate will have ISBE-compliant credentials, experience with IEPs, and strong classroom management and collaboration skills to work with diverse learners and staff.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Special Education, Education, or related field.
• Valid Illinois teaching license/credential (PEL) with Special Education endorsement.
• Must meet ISBE requirements.
• Experience working with high school students with Autism or other special education needs.
• Experience teaching Social Studies; some Science instruction preferred.
• Knowledge of IEPs, differentiated instruction, accommodations, and best practices.
• Strong classroom management, communication, organization, and collaboration skills.
• Ability to work with students with diverse academic, behavioral, and developmental needs.

Responsibilities

• Provide special education instruction to high school students with Autism and related learning needs.
• Teach Social Studies as the primary subject area, with some Science instruction.
• Develop and deliver differentiated lesson plans based on students' academic and developmental needs.
• Support students with IEPs and implement appropriate accommodations and modifications.
• Monitor student academic and behavioral progress and maintain accurate documentation.
• Collaborate with general education teachers, special education staff, school administrators, related service providers, and families.
• Adapt instructional strategies and classroom activities to meet individual learning needs.
• Create a positive, structured, inclusive, and supportive classroom environment.
• Support students' academic, social, behavioral, and overall educational development.
• Follow school district policies and applicable Illinois special education requirements.
