Job summary

Howmet Aerospace in Branford, CT is seeking an Inspector Trainee for 1st shift to learn to determine accept/reject status of components against instructions and customer requirements. Training will be provided in-house by Howmet.

You will review work instructions in English, interpret blueprints, set up dot-peen equipment, and support cross-training of inspectors while maintaining quality and safety standards in a shop environment.

Qualifications

  • Minimum: High School Diploma or GED.
  • US work authorization required; visa sponsorship not available.
  • ITAR requires U.S. person status.

Responsibilities

  • Review work instructions, stored electronically and written in English, for each job assignment to ensure compliance with product requirements.
  • Interpret instructions, blueprints, and inspection requirements.
  • Set up, program, and operate dot-peen equipment.
  • Cross-train other Inspectors as needed or directed.
  • Transport cartons of work between operations as required.
  • Adhere to safety initiatives and 6S standards; complete routers and reports in a timely, legible manner.

We are currently looking for a candidate to fill the role of Inspector Trainee for a 1st shift opening.This position is responsible for the determination of accept/reject status of components as compared to company instruction and/or customer requirements, throughout various stages of in-process work ensuring the accuracy of all findings. All training necessary to successfully perform this job will be provided in-house by Howmet.

Job Responsibilities

  • Review work instructions, stored electronically and written in English, for each job assignment to ensure compliance with product requirements.
  • Knowledge of and adherence to, Company quality procedures.
  • Ability to interpret instructions, blueprints, and inspection requirements.
  • Identify coat vs. no-coat areas on component blueprints when required.
  • Set up, program, and operate dot-peen equipment.
  • Will be expected to cross‑train other Inspectors as needed or directed.
  • Transport cartons of work between operations as required.
  • Ability to use proper and safe containerization methods for all hazardous waste.
  • Responsible for the completion of any/all routers and reports including computer reports) in a legible and timely manner.
  • Keep work area clean according to 6’S standards.
  • Adhere to applicable quality standards, company policies and procedures, customer requirements, and safety initiatives.
  • Perform other job duties as needed or directed by management.
Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • This position requires a minimum of a High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
  • This position is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) which requires U.S. person status. ITAR defines U.S. person as an U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident (i.e. 'Green Card Holder'), Political Asylee, or Refugee. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 1-3 Years of manufacturing experience highly desired.
  • Experience in a quality-related or inspection position.

Skills & Abilities:

Must be able to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.Ability to write simple correspondence or documentation.

Good math skills with the ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

Good organizational skills in maintaining a variety of records and reports.
