Job summary

Intertek is seeking an Inspector III, Petroleum for St. Rose, LA. Responsibilities include volume/temperature measurements, sampling, custody transfer surveys, and reporting to ensure accurate quantity/quality assessments. Role requires API MPMS knowledge, TWIC eligibility, and field training of junior inspectors.

Travel up to 25% is expected; you will coordinate with terminal and transport teams and operate across lines, shore tanks, and rail cars, upholding safety and documentation standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering or closely related field with two years of Inspector experience; or four years' experience without a degree.
• Two years of experience in the following areas: TWIC, API MPMS chapters, petroleum/chemical inspection, ASA surveys, field audits, dispatching and coordinating, and company systems like Phoenix, C-Bis, Sample Manager, ICAM.
• Must have or be able to obtain Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC).
• Ability to interpret API MPMS Chapters 3,7,8,11,12 and 17 including temperature/volume corrections, shore tank measurements, and custody transfer calculations.
• Experience or training in petroleum and chemical inspection procedures and TIC certification.

Responsibilities

• Perform volume and temperature measurements, sampling, calculations, documentation and reporting for quantity/quality assessment.
• Carry out duties by specified methodology and complete required paperwork.
• Measure volume and temperature of commodities in lines, shore tanks, rail cars, tank trucks and barges.
• Conduct visual inspections on lines, equipment and tanks.
• Perform custody transfer surveys and communicate results.
• Calibrate and verify equipment, and ensure data validity and traceability.
• Provide on-the-job training to less experienced Inspectors and assist senior staff.
• Coordinate with terminal, transport and company personnel to ensure timely service and reporting.
• Travel up to 25% domestically.

Education

Job Duties:

• Perform the necessary volume measurements, temperature measurements, sampling, calculations, documentation and reporting which ensures that the customer receives an independent, accurate and complete assessment of quantity and quality of material.
• Able to perform by specified methodology the below duties in addition to completing the associated paperwork:
• Volume measurement, temperature measurement and sampling of commodity materials contained or conveyed in lines, shore tanks, rail cars, tank trucks and barges;
• Visual inspections on lines, pumps, manifolds, shore tanks, rail cars, tank trucks and barges;
• Custody transfer surveys of commodities transferred to and from rail cars, tank trucks, shore tanks and barges;
• Routine equipment calibration, verification and function checks;
• Verify and communicate the results obtained and to make the entries into the appropriate media, whether print or electronic, required to ensure the validity and traceability of the information;
• Provide on the job training to less experienced Inspectors;
• Provide on the job assistance and receive training from more experienced Inspectors.
• Communicate and coordinate with terminal, transport and company personnel to promote smooth exercise of duties assigned. Monitor the availability of the supplies needed for the above processes, and to make any needs for such supplies known to the Dispatcher or Coordinator. Organize and coordinate jobs so that services are rendered, and reports and samples are submitted in a timely manner.
• This position requires 25% domestic travel.

REQUIREMENTS: Employer will accept a Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering or closely related field and two (2) years of experience as Inspector or related role where required experience gained. Alternatively, Employer will also accept no degree and four (4) years of experience.

Also requires two (2) years of experience in the following:

• Must have or be able to obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC).
• Ability to interpret and apply API MPMS Chapters 3,7,8, 11, 12 and 17, including temperature/volume correction factors, shore tank measurements, and custody transfer calculations.
• Petroleum and chemical inspection procedures.
• ASA surveys.
• Training in Field Audit Assessments.
• Dispatching and coordinating.
• Company Operating systems including Phoenix, C-Bis, Sample Manager, ICAM, etc.
• Testing Inspection & Certification (TIC) certification.
