Job summary

Cox Automotive is seeking a Vehicle Condition Inspector in Elkridge, MD. You will assess each vehicle’s condition, document damages, and prepare support materials including VIN, condition notes, and cost estimates. The role requires basic computer skills and a valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities include thorough inspections, keeping up with labor rates and manufacturer updates, and performing courtesy walk-arounds while adhering to safety guidelines. Some moving of vehicles may be required.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Generally, less than 2 years of experience in a related field.
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
  • Basic computer skills.

  • Note system status: frame, paint, engine, AC/heater, radio, navigation, tires and more.
  • Prepare support documentation: VIN, condition description, repair cost estimates, photos.
  • Stay current with labor rates, parts charges and manufacturer updates.
  • Conduct courtesy walk-around inspections and follow safety procedures.
  • May be asked to locate, start and move vehicles as directed.

Key Responsibilities:

  • vehicle identification data, condition description, repair costs estimates,
  • photographs, etc.
  • Maintain current knowledge of applicable labor rates, parts charges and
  • manufacturer's updates; adhere to work instructions/procedures
  • regarding inspections/documentation.
  • Conduct courtesy walk-around inspections.
  • Follow all applicable safety and health related procedures.
  • May be required to locate, start and move vehicles as directed
Qualifications:
Minimum
  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Generally, less than 2 years of experience in a related field.
  • Safe driver's needed; valid driver's license required.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Valid driver’s license and safe driving record.
  • Ability to drive standard and automatic transmission vehicles.
Preferred:
  • Must be detail-oriented, accurate, and able to multi-task.
  • General knowledge of mechanical and automotive body work.
  • Previous body shop, automotive background and mechanical experience.
Physical requirements:
  • Ability to stand, walk, reach, talk, hear, stoop, kneel, crouch, and climb.
  • Vision requirements: close, distance, depth perception, and color
  • variations.
  • Must be able to work in varied weather conditions.
Work Environment:
  • Exposure to outdoor weather conditions. Moderate noise level. May be exposed to fumes and odors.
