Job summary

ONE Gas, Inc. is seeking a field inspector to oversee pipeline installation, maintenance, and contractor work in Oklahoma City. You will inspect work to ensure compliance with company and governmental standards and assist with tools, equipment, and leak surveys.

This role requires 2–4 years of related experience, a valid driver's license (CDL preferred), ability to read maps and reports, and strong English communication. Regular attendance and safety awareness are essential.

Qualifications

  • Two to four years of relevant pipeline inspection experience; minimum of one year required.
  • Experience with construction and maintenance of transmission and distribution pipeline systems.
  • Knowledge of applicable federal, state, and industry standards and regulations regarding pipeline construction and safety.
  • Reading and writing fluently in English.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect installation, maintenance, and removal work performed by contractors to ensure compliance with standards.
  • Assist with operation and maintenance of tools and equipment used in performance of duties.
  • Perform routine maintenance on vehicles and equipment.
  • Maintain logs and prepare reports (inspection logs, leak reports, job orders, training records, mileage, accidents).
  • Investigate customer orders and emergency situations (low pressure calls, leaks, fires).
  • Review invoices for accuracy.
  • Attend and perform duties as assigned.

Job description

Performs inspection work on company pipelines; oversees contractors engaged in the construction and maintenance of a pipeline system.

Responsibilities

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Inspects installation, maintenance, and removal work performed by or contractors on transmission and distribution pipelines to ensure compliance and/or identify noncompliance with company and governmental standards.
  • Assists with operation and/or maintenance of tools and equipment in performance of duties including:
    • Pipe and crescent wrenches
    • Pipe cutters and threaders
    • Hammers and screwdrivers
    • Picks, shovels, and rakes
    • Air compressors and generators
    • Plastic fusion equipment
    • Combustible Gas Indicators - flame-ionization unit
    • Jiggle bar
    • Leak survey equipment
    • Tapping and plugging
  • Performs routine maintenance on vehicles and equipment.
  • Maintains logs; compiles and prepares reports including but not limited to:
    • Inspection logs
    • Leak reports
    • Job order completion information
    • Training/testing records
    • Mileage reports
    • Accident/first aid reports
    • Expense Reports
  • Investigates customer related orders and/or emergency situations including but not limited to:
    • Low pressure calls
    • Class 1 leaks
    • Blowing lines
    • Fires/explosions
    • Undetectable lines
  • Reviews invoices for accuracy (pricing, quantity installed, materials used, etc.).
  • Regular and reliable attendance is required in performance of job.
  • Employee may be required to perform additional duties as assigned.

Experience

  • This role typically calls for two to four years of relevant experience; (Minimum of one-year relevant experience is required).
  • Experience in use, function, and maintenance of tools and equipment applicable to position including accessing and utilizing computer applications.
  • Experience with application of basic arithmetic:
    • addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
  • Experience with construction and maintenance of transmission and distribution pipeline systems.
  • Knowledge of applicable federal, state, and/or industry standards and regulations regarding pipeline construction and safety.
  • Working knowledge relative to:
    • Company Gas Operations Standards Manual (GOSM) procedures
    • Emergency response procedures
    • Welding/plastic fusion policies and procedures
    • One Call System policies and procedures
    • Interpersonal/communication skills
  • Knowledge of function and/or maintenance of regulators, chart meters, well meters, cathodic protection, and leakage survey and remote methane leak device.
  • Experience reading and interpreting maps, atlas pages, blueprints, budget information, and job orders.
  • Knowledge and experience with basic computer operation and relevant software.
  • Demonstrated ability to read and write fluently in English.

Licenses and Certifications

Applicable driver's license

CDL preferred.

Additional Requirements

  • Lift or move objects weighing up to 20 pounds 10-15 times a day; up to 40 pounds 7-10 times a day; up to 50 pounds 10-12 times a day.
  • Climb into and out of excavations and onto and off of equipment.li>
  • Travel over uneven terrain including but not limited to:
    • Mud
    • Gravel
    • Sand
    • Rocks
    • Ice
    • Snow
  • React immediately to emergency situations to prevent injury to self and others.
  • Smell odorant in natural gas.
  • Detect and react to warning signals at work sites.
  • Able to operate tools and equipment required.
  • Perform maintenance on the company leak truck and all related leakage survey equipment. (as specified by position)
  • Communicates and/or exchanges information or instructions verbally, including use of company two way radios or cellular telephones.
  • Peripheral vision and accurate depth perception.
  • Visual abilities sufficient to perform job duties.
