Job summary

ONE Gas, Inc. is seeking a field professional to perform damage investigations, locate audits (QAQC), and RADAR activities across service areas.

The role includes locating pipelines, mapping marker balls, and updating reports in DIMS, with regular travel and potential call-out work. Two to four years of relevant experience are typical, with prerequisites including basic knowledge of gas characteristics and safety procedures, plus a valid driver’s license.

Qualifications

  • Two to four years of relevant experience; minimum one year required.
  • Experience performing leakage surveys.
  • Training in operating/safety procedures, customer interaction, locating lines, natural gas characteristics.
  • Intermediate knowledge of procedures and state damage prevention laws.
  • Basic knowledge of cathodic protection.
  • Experience reading maps, plats, diagrams, logs and manuals.
  • Applicable driver’s license.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct locate assists, line locate audits, damage investigations, and RADAR activities.
  • Respond to RADAR requests/orders.
  • Troubleshoot difficult locates; consult with third parties and regulators.
  • Communicate and present to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Install and map marker balls, locate stations, near-surface markers.
  • Update and maintain reports, including DIMS and excavation activity.
  • Perform line locating audits for company and contractors.
  • Inspect, calibrate, maintain, repair line location tools and equipment.
  • Maintain regular attendance; travel as needed.
  • Work call-out rotation and adapt to changing business needs.

Job description

Performs work related to damage investigations, locate audits (QAQC), risk assessments and damage reduction efforts (RADAR), locate company pipelines, and perform no-access activities.

Responsibilities

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conduct locate assists, line locate audits, and damage investigations, and Watch and Protect activities.
  • Respond to lower Risk Assessment and Damage Reduction (RADAR) requests/orders.
  • Troubleshoot difficult locates or high-profile gas line facilities. Consult with third parties, regulatory agencies, and company employees regarding line location.
  • Ability to effectively communicate and deliver presentations to internal and external stakeholders in a variety of settings.
  • Install and map:
    • Marker balls
    • Locate station
    • Near surface marker
  • Update and/or maintain reports and records, including, but not limited to:
    • Report on excavation activity report
    • Damage Investigation Management Systems (DIMS) reporting
    • Proficient knowledge of DIRT contributing practices and factors
  • Perform line locating audits for company and contractors.
  • Inspect, calibrate, maintain, and/or repair line location tools and equipment.
  • Regular and reliable attendance is required in performance of job.
  • Employee may be required to perform additional duties as assigned.
  • Demonstrated flexibility and adaptability to effectively manage changing business needs and evolving priorities.
  • Available to travel, including occasional short-notice travel, to support operations across geographically diverse service areas.
  • Ability to work call-out rotation.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in both field operations and administrative responsibilities, including the use of office productivity and data management software.
Qualifications

Experience

  • This role typically calls for two to four years of relevant experience; (Minimum of one-year relevant experience is required).
  • Experience performing leakage surveys.
  • Training and experience relative to:
    • Company and governmental operating/safety procedures
      • Basic customer interaction and communication
      • Locating lines
      • Characteristics of natural gas
  • Intermediate knowledge and training related to:
    • Company and governmental operating/safety procedures
    • State damage prevention laws
  • Basic knowledge of cathodic protection.
  • Experience in use, function, maintenance, and repair of damage prevention tools and equipment.
  • Knowledge of Jameson Tape.
  • Experience in reading and interpreting maps, plats, atlas pages, diagrams, dials, gauges, work logs, job orders, and applicable operation and repair manuals

Licenses and Certifications

Applicable driver's license.

Additional Requirements

  • Lift or move objects weighing up to 20 pounds 50-60 times a day; up to 75 pounds 10 times a day.
  • Travel over uneven terrain including but not limited to:
    • Mud
    • Gravel
    • Sand
    • Rocks
    • Ice
    • Snow
  • Walk, stand, kneel/stoop, and drive for extended periods.
  • Push spud bar (or similar tools) in ground and extract.
  • Able to operate tools and equipment required.
  • React immediately to emergency situations to prevent injury to self and others.
  • Smell odorant in natural gas (as applicable).
  • Communicate and/or exchange information or instructions including use of company communication devices.
  • Visual abilities sufficient to perform job duties.
  • Peripheral vision.
