Job summary

Cox Automotive is hiring an Inspector Apprentice in Indianapolis, IN to support the Vehicle Operations team. You will inspect incoming vehicles for damage, missing parts, and mechanical issues and prepare reports of vehicle condition and repair estimates.

This entry-level role offers hands-on experience with documentation, system use, and safety practices. You will learn to create electronic condition reports, perform day-end procedures, and maintain knowledge of inspection techniques and tools

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Generally, less than 2 years of experience.
  • Safe driver’s license required.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills required.
  • Preferred: strong technical understanding, with good organizational skills.
  • Ability to multitask, follow directions and take instruction.
  • Advanced computer skills.
  • Ability to stand, walk, or sit for prolonged periods and lift up to 30 lbs.

Responsibilities

  • Verify vehicle information based on work order information – identify damage, missing parts, and mechanical problems by inspecting all customer vehicles at time of receipt (i.e., interior, exterior, odometer reading, trunk area, engine compartment).
  • Prepare and complete all necessary documentation.
  • Set up system for day-end; perform day-end procedures.
  • Maintain knowledge to ensure all policies and procedures are followed.
  • Write electronic condition reports (ECR).
  • Conduct OVE courtesy walk around inspections.
  • Maintain knowledge of system capabilities and job-relevant software packages.
  • Maintain a working knowledge on improvements and changes concerning body mechanical, frame labor, inspection techniques.
  • Follow safety procedures and participate in Safety Excellence.
  • Perform other duties as assigned; may require overtime.

Company Cox Automotive - USA Job Family Group Vehicle Operations Job Profile Inspector Apprentice Management Level Individual Contributor Flexible Work Option No remote option; must work at a specified Cox location Travel % No Work Shift Day Compensation Hourly base pay rate is $13.70 - $20.53/hour. The hourly base rate may vary within the anticipated range based on factors such as the ultimate location of the position and the selected candidate’s knowledge, skills, and abilities. Position may be eligible for additional compensation that may include commission (annual, monthly, etc.) and/or an incentive program.

Job Description Conducts inspections of incoming vehicles to detect damage, missing parts and mechanical problems; prepare and submit report of vehicle condition, repair/replacement cost estimates and related documentation.

Job Responsibilities
  • Verify vehicle information based on work order information – identify damage, missing parts, and mechanical problems by inspecting all customer vehicles at time of receipt (i.e., interior, exterior, odometer reading, trunk area, engine compartment), noting any damage or repair to frame/paint, engine noise, AC/heater operation, radio, tire condition, etc.
  • Prepare and complete all necessary documentation.
  • Set up system for day-end; perform day-end procedures.
  • Maintain knowledge to ensure all policies and procedures are followed.
  • Write electronic condition reports (ECR).
  • Conduct OVE courtesy walk around inspections.
  • Maintain knowledge of system capabilities, knowledge of needed/job-relevant software packages, and web-based applications.
  • Maintain a working knowledge on improvements and changes concerning body mechanical, frame labor, inspection techniques, etc.
  • Visibly demonstrate safety commitment by following all safety and health procedures and modeling the behaviors related to such.
  • Actively participate in support of all safety activities aligned with Safety Excellence.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.
  • May be required to work overtime as business needs dictate.
Qualifications
  • Minimum: High school diploma or GED required.
  • Generally, less than 2 years of experience.
  • Safe driver’s needed; valid driver’s license required.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills required.
  • Preferred: Strong technical understanding, with good organizational skills needed.
  • Ability to multitask, follow directions and take instruction.
  • Advanced computer skills.
  • Ability to stand, walk, or sit for prolonged periods of time; ability to bend, stoop, squat or kneel; ability to lift and hold at least 10lbs at waist level for an extended period of-time; ability to lift-up to 30 lbs.

Work Environment: Exposure to outdoor weather and inclement conditions.(100% outdoors) Moderate noise level. May be exposed to fumes and odors. May be required to work overtime (more than 40 hours per week) as business needs dictate.
