Job description

Job Summary

Northrop Grumman is currently seeking an Inspector 2/3 to support our Propulsion Systems and Controls Business unit within our Weapons Systems division. The position is located onsite in Elkton, MD, at the PS&C facility, which designs, develops and produces solid‑propellant propulsion and ordnance systems for government and commercial customers. This role requires a U.S. citizen with the ability to obtain a Secret clearance.


Responsibilities


  • Use process control documents, inspection plans, and specified standards to inspect in‑process and finished components, subassemblies, and assemblies visually and dimensionally.

  • Work from process documents, customer specifications, drawings, inspection instructions, and checklists to verify quality in accordance with statistical process or other control procedures.

  • Perform mechanical or electrical inspections on manufactured or purchased components and assemblies using measuring devices such as calipers, micrometers, thickness gauges, height gauges, Shore A & D hardness gauges, and electronic measuring devices (Coordinate Measuring Machines).

  • Conduct First Article Inspections and line inspections after critical operations to ensure all materials, components, and assemblies are acceptable.

  • Perform mathematical calculations to confirm compliance with inspection criteria.

  • Operate Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM) using PC‑DMIS software, develop and maintain programs, and execute setups.

  • Create inspection reports from drawings or inspection plans.

  • Accept, reject, or rework defective or malfunctioning units or systems.

  • Investigate non‑conformances and participate in root‑cause and corrective action activities.

  • Support safety efforts through job safety analysis (JSA), building inspections, and other safety duties as required.

  • Be flexible with work skills and daily tasks, including availability for overtime and weekends.

  • At least 2 years of experience in a manufacturing environment.

  • Ability to obtain a Secret clearance; U.S. citizenship is a prerequisite.

  • Ability to operate a Coordinate Measuring Machine under guidance of qualified programmers.

  • Attention to detail, strong leadership, communication, organizational, and time‑management skills.

  • Self‑motivated and proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.

  • At least 4 years of experience in a manufacturing environment.

  • Ability to obtain a Secret clearance; U.S. citizenship is a prerequisite.

  • Experience programming and operating a Coordinate Measuring Machine under guidance of qualified programmers.

  • Attention to detail, strong leadership, communication, organizational, and time‑management skills.

  • Self‑motivated and proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.


Preferred Qualifications (both levels)


  • Working knowledge of AS9100/ISO9001.

  • Ability to obtain and maintain ATF Employee Possessor status.

  • Background in GD&T.

  • IPC J‑STD‑001, 610/620 training or experience.


Benefits


  • Base salary range: Inspector 2 – $45,100 to $75,100; Inspector 3 – $53,500 to $89,100.
