General Description

The Insitu Technician I is an entry‑level position designed to develop the skills necessary for performing on‑site machining and repair tasks under the guidance of senior machinists. This role involves assisting with machining operations, learning how to interpret technical drawings, using measurement tools, and gaining hands‑on experience with specialized machining equipment. The technician will actively support both field and workshop operations while ensuring adherence to Goltens' Quality, Health, Safety, and Environmental (QHSE) standards.

Responsibilities

1. Support senior machinists in performing on‑site machining tasks, such as crankshaft machining, line boring, flange facing, and other field machining services.
2. Learn how to properly handle and operate specialized machining tools, including lathes, mills, and bore gauges, under supervision.
3. Assist in interpreting and following technical drawings and job specifications to support accurate machining operations.
4. Aid in using precision measurement instruments, including micrometers, calipers, and dial gauges, to ensure work is performed within tolerance.
5. Assist with preparing tools and equipment for field service jobs, including packing, mobilization, and equipment maintenance. Contribute to the upkeep and organization of the Insitu workshop.
6. Participate in the inspection and calibration of tools and equipment, ensuring all work aligns with the company’s QHSE standards.
7. Follow all health and safety protocols, attend pre‑job safety briefings, and contribute to maintaining a safe working environment both in the field and workshop.
8. Assist in maintaining accurate records, including time sheets, expense reports, and service reports, under the supervision of senior team members.
9. Actively engage in training programs to develop skills in machining techniques, measurement, and technical documentation, with the goal of advancing to higher‑level positions.
10. Perform additional duties as assigned by senior machinists or management to support field and workshop operations.

Minimum Knowledge & Educational Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required.
• Enrollment in a relevant technical trade program or vocational school is a plus.
• No prior experience required, though previous exposure to machining, welding, or mechanical work environments is advantageous.

• Basic understanding of mechanical tools and equipment, with a willingness to learn machining techniques.

• Ability to travel 60% to 80% of the time both domestically and/or internationally and adapt to frequently changing schedules.

Conditions of Employment; General –

• A valid passport and TWIC card must be obtained within six (6) months of hire for roles that involve access to secure port facilities or international travel.

• A pre‑placement job‑related physical examination is required for roles involving field service, equipment handling, or physically demanding work. Evaluations are conducted through a certified third‑party provider using Human Performance Evaluation (HPE) standards.
• For assignments involving offshore installations, remote job sites, or high‑risk facilities, employees must hold a valid OGUK medical fitness certificate prior to deployment. This certification is valid for two (2) years and is a condition of continued assignment to such roles.

Conditions of Employment; Physical Requirements –

• Vision: Sufficient visual acuity (close, distance, and depth perception) and the ability to distinguish red, green, and amber color codes used in mechanical systems, safety signals, and wiring. Corrective lenses are permitted.
• Hearing and Speech: Ability to clearly communicate and respond to instructions and audible alarms in a noisy industrial environment. Hearing aids or similar medical devices may be used to meet this requirement.
• Dexterity: Fine motor control and manual dexterity are required to operate tools, perform mechanical tasks, and carry out maintenance, machining, or repair activities.
• Mobility: Ability to stand, bend, kneel, squat, or climb as needed to access equipment, machinery, or confined spaces. Ability to mount and dismount industrial vehicles or work platforms.
• Strength and Endurance: Capacity to lift and carry up to 50 pounds repeatedly during a shift and to sustain physical activity for extended periods while maintaining balance and safety posture.
• Travel and Environmental Readiness: Willingness and ability to work in variable conditions including outdoor, marine, confined, or elevated environments. Must be prepared to travel domestically or internationally and perform work on ships, offshore platforms, or remote customer sites when assigned.
