Job summary

PDM Steel Service Centers, Inc. is seeking a sales and procurement specialist to sell and purchase metal and other requested materials to OEMs, fabricators, distributors, and other metal users in Sparks, NV.

You will confer with customers by telephone, fax, email, and in person to provide information, enter orders, quote pricing, prepare contracts for orders, and monitor fulfillment to ensure on-time delivery.

Qualifications

• Math skills to calculate discounts, pricing, and material quantities.
• Ability to read simple drawings and sketches for quotations.
• Customer service knowledge including understanding customer needs and satisfaction.

Responsibilities

• Confer with customers by phone, fax, email, and in person to provide information, take orders, and clarify complaints.
• Figure material usage according to customer requirements and requests.
• Calculate and quote pricing of materials and processing to customers.
• Prepare sales contracts and purchase orders for orders obtained.
• Review orders for accuracy and adherence to company policies.
• Enter orders and monitor fulfillment to ensure on-time delivery.
• Communicate delivery issues and coordinate with customers and internal teams.
• Support purchasing to manage stock levels and reduce slow-moving inventory.
• Maintain customer quotes and special requirements files.
• Review sales reports to stay informed of customer activity and margins.
• Maximize gross profit and assist with customer relations.

Job Function

• Confer with customers by telephone, fax, email, and in person to provide information about products or services, take or enter orders, or obtain details of complaints
• Figure material usage according to customer requirements and requests
• Calculate and quote pricing of materials and processing to customers
• Prepare sales contracts for orders obtained
• Prepare purchase orders for orders obtained
• Review all orders entered for accuracy and adherence to company policies and procedures
• Enter all orders and buyouts into the computer system
• Monitor all orders to assure orders are delivered to customer as promised
• Contact customer to relay any delivery issues in a timely manner
• Initiate and follow up on all customer service issues to closure
• Arrange for inspection, return and credit of material which is non-compliant or otherwise rejected by the customer
• Monitor stock levels and communicate with the appropriate personnel to assure levels are maintained
• Work with Purchasing to sell material which is slow moving and would otherwise be scrapped
• Create and maintain customer quote and special requirement file
• Review sales figures and reports for changes in customer activity and profit margin
• Communicate information gathered from customers regarding service, pricing, etc., to Outside Sales
• Review weekly sales reports to stay abreast of information relayed by customers to Outside Sales
• Maximize gross profit
• Entertain customers as requested

Required Skills

Knowledge:

• Math Skills – Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, proportions, percentages, area circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
• Interpret drawings – Ability to read simple customer part drawings and sketches to provide quotations.
• Customer Service - Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer service. This includes customer needs, assessment, meeting quality standards for service, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.

Skills:

• Language Skills – Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, journals, technical procedures, or government regulations. The ability to write reports, business correspondence. The ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
• Reasoning Ability – Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, and diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
• Active Listening – Giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times.
