Job summary

Texas A&M AgriLife Research in College Station, TX seeks an Assistant Curator to manage day-to-day operations of the Texas A&M University Insect Collection, recruit and supervise part-time staff, and support taxonomic programs.

The role focuses on collection development, data management, public outreach, and collaboration with professionals to maintain high standards in arthropod research collections.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree or higher in a related field.
  • One year of related experience.
  • Knowledge of modern collection management procedures.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to multi task and work cooperatively with others.

Responsibilities

  • Initiate, coordinate, supervise, and participate in the daily operations of the Texas A&M University Insect Collection, including specimen and loan processing, collection curation, and records management.
  • Recruit, train, and supervise part-time technicians and student workers; coordinate research collection activities with the teaching collection manager.
  • Maintain the departmental arthropod identification and information service and assist in providing taxonomic support for instructional and outreach/Extension programs.
  • Promote collection development through field work to enhance taxonomic diversity of holdings from Texas and adjacent regions.
  • Assist the Curator in identifying and securing support for collection development activities and establish policies affecting operations and development.
  • Enhance collection development, usage, and visibility through relationships with arthropod systematists and biologists; maintain knowledge of best practices through professional involvement.
