Job summary

Prep Academy Tutors of North & West Cook County is seeking a diligent Mandarin Tutor to provide in-person, one-on-one instruction for K‑12 students in the Oak Park area. The tutor will tailor lessons to each student’s proficiency and align with school curricula to build language confidence and academic success.

You will focus on Mandarin speaking, listening, reading, and writing, including tones and character work, while maintaining regular communication with families and scheduling flexibility

Responsibilities

• Provide individualized Mandarin instruction aligned with students' school curricula and goals.
• Develop Mandarin speaking, listening, reading, writing, vocabulary, grammar, and pronunciation skills.
• Teach tones, character recognition, and character writing as appropriate to the student.
• Help students prepare for quizzes, tests, and exams.
• Develop engaging, customized lesson plans based on strengths and learning objectives.
• Provide remedial instruction or enrichment to improve proficiency and confidence.
• Incorporate appropriate learning materials, activities, and practical language exercises.
• Introduce cultural context to support learning and engagement.
• Monitor progress and adapt methods to promote improvement.
• Communicate regularly with parents/guardians regarding progress and goals.

Job Summary

We are seeking a passionate, knowledgeable, and reliable Mandarin Tutor to join our Illinois team. The ideal candidate has a strong command of Mandarin Chinese and a passion for helping students develop language proficiency, deepen their cultural understanding, and achieve their academic goals.

You will provide one-on-one, in-person tutoring to students from Kindergarten to Grade 12, supporting their Mandarin coursework and language development. Lessons will be customized to each student's proficiency level, learning style, academic needs, and school curriculum.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide individualized Mandarin instruction aligned with students' school curricula and academic goals.
• Support the development of Mandarin speaking, listening, reading, writing, vocabulary, grammar, and pronunciation skills.
• Teach and reinforce Mandarin tones, character recognition, and character writing as appropriate to each student's level and curriculum.
• Help students prepare for quizzes, tests, exams, classroom assignments, and other academic assessments.
• Develop engaging, customized lesson plans that address individual strengths, challenges, and learning objectives.
• Provide remedial instruction or enrichment activities to improve proficiency and build confidence.
• Incorporate appropriate learning materials, interactive activities, and practical language exercises to reinforce understanding.
• Introduce relevant cultural context when it supports language learning and student engagement.
• Monitor student progress and adapt instructional methods to support continued improvement.
• Communicate regularly with parents or guardians regarding student progress, learning goals, and areas for further development.

Qualifications & Skills

Requirements

All applicants must hold a Bachelor's degree and meet at least one of the following criteria:

• Hold a valid Illinois State teaching certificate or an equivalent teaching certificate from another state.
• Be currently enrolled in a teacher certification program.
• Have at least two years of teaching experience in a private, public, or charter school.
• Have experience as a lecturer or course instructor at an accredited U.S. college or university.
• Be a Master's or PhD student with experience as a teaching assistant at a U.S. college or university.

Applicants should also demonstrate Mandarin language proficiency appropriate for providing high-quality academic instruction.
