Prep Academy Tutors of North & West Cook County is seeking a passionate Japanese Tutor to join our Illinois team. The ideal candidate has a strong command of Japanese and enjoys helping students develop language skills, confidence, and academic success.

You will provide one-on-one, in-person tutoring to Kindergarten through Grade 12 students, tailoring instruction to each student’s proficiency, learning style, academic goals, and school curriculum.

Qualifications

• Strong proficiency in Japanese (speaking, listening, reading, writing).
• Knowledge of Japanese grammar, pronunciation, and writing systems (hiragana/katakana/kanji).
• Genuine enthusiasm for teaching Japanese and supporting student achievement.
• Ability to explain language concepts clearly and adapt lessons to ages and proficiency levels.
• Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
• Ability to adapt to a range of learning styles and student goals.

Responsibilities

• Provide individualized Japanese language instruction aligned with students' curricula and goals.
• Support development of speaking, listening, reading, writing, vocabulary, grammar, and pronunciation.
• Teach and reinforce hiragana, katakana, and kanji as appropriate.
• Help students understand sentence structure, grammar, and everyday communication.
• Prepare students for quizzes, tests, exams, and classroom assignments.
• Design engaging, customized lessons addressing learning needs and growth.
• Provide remedial or enrichment activities to strengthen proficiency.
• Incorporate interactive exercises and cultural context when appropriate.
• Monitor progress and adjust instructional strategies to meet goals.
• Maintain regular communication with parents/guardians about progress.

Key Responsibilities

• Design engaging, customized lessons that address individual learning needs, strengths, and areas for improvement.

• Incorporate interactive exercises, supplemental learning materials, and practical language applications to reinforce understanding.
• Introduce relevant Japanese cultural context when it supports language learning and student engagement.
• Monitor student progress and adjust instructional strategies to help students meet their goals.
• Maintain regular communication with parents or guardians regarding student progress, challenges, and learning objectives.

Qualifications & Skills

Requirements

All applicants must hold a Bachelor's degree and meet at least one of the following criteria:

• Hold a valid Illinois State teaching certificate or an equivalent teaching certificate from another state.
• Be currently enrolled in a teacher certification program.
• Have at least two years of teaching experience in a private, public, or charter school.
• Have experience as a lecturer or course instructor at an accredited U.S. college or university.
• Be a Master's or PhD student with experience as a teaching assistant at a U.S. college or university.

Applicants should also demonstrate Japanese language proficiency appropriate for providing high-quality academic instruction.
