The Inpatient Therapist for the Birch Program provides specialized clinical services to adolescents in a long-term inpatient psychiatric unit. This role supports youth recovery through comprehensive assessments, individualized treatment planning, trauma-informed therapeutic interventions and collaboration with an interdisciplinary team, all delivered in accordance with professional standards and program goals.
Essential Functions
- Conduct thorough psychosocial assessments of adolescents admitted to the Birch Program.
- Develop and implement individualized treatment plans, addressing the unique needs of youth with complex mental health challenges.
- Provide individual, group, and family therapy sessions utilizing evidence-based practices.
- Respond to crisis situations and participate in de-escalation and intervention planning.
- Facilitate psychoeducational groups on coping skills, emotional regulation and social skills.
- Engage and support families through therapy sessions, psychoeducation and discharge planning.
- Collaborate closely with psychiatrists, nurses, social workers and behavioral health staff.
- Maintain timely and accurate clinical documentation, including progress notes and treatment plans.
- Actively participate in treatment team meetings, case conferences and interdisciplinary collaboration.
- Stay current on advancements in adolescent mental health treatment and participate in ongoing professional development.
- Advocate for the needs and rights of adolescents within the hospital and broader system.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Education And Experience
- Master’s or Doctoral degree in a behavioral health field required (as determined by funding agencies).
- Minimum of two years’ clinical experience preferred; candidates with less experience who meet state requirements will be considered.
Licensure/Certification
- Active licensure required (CSW, LCSW, LPCA, or LPCC).
- Valid driver’s license
Knowledge And Skills
- Strong skills in assessment, intervention, crisis management, and trauma-informed care.
- Effective verbal and written communication.
- Ability to work collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams.
- Ability to maintain professionalism and emotional resilience in a high-acuity environment.
