Job summary

The State of New Hampshire, Department of Health and Human Services, New Hampshire Hospital is seeking a Psychiatric Social Worker for a Full‑Time, 1st Shift role. This inpatient position focuses on clinical social work services and discharge planning.

Responsibilities include psychosocial assessments, individual/group/family therapy, crisis management, and collaboration with an interdisciplinary team to ensure safe and effective care and community reintegration.

Qualifications

• Education/Experience: Bachelor's degree and 1.5 years of experience OR equivalent combination of 5.5 years of education and experience after high school.
• License/Certification: Valid driver’s license.
• Preferred qualifications: Master’s Degree in Social Work strongly preferred.
• After-hire requirements: None.

Responsibilities

• Conducts comprehensive psychosocial assessments and informs inpatient treatment planning and aftercare recommendations.
• Develops individualized treatment goals and ensures ongoing discharge planning throughout care.
• Provides individual, group, and family therapy using a broad range of established techniques.
• Applies NASW ethics, DSM‑5‑TR, trauma‑informed care, and systems theory in clinical interventions.
• Monitors and documents intervention effectiveness in the clinical record.
• Manages legal matters related to patient care, including guardianship and court hearings.
• Provides coaching to hospital staff on trauma‑informed interventions.
• Establishes relationships with community agencies to facilitate discharge outcomes.
