Job summary

Ochsner LSU Health System in Monroe, LA invites applications for a Pharmacy Technician focused on dispensing support, IV admixtures, order entry and stock management within a busy hospital pharmacy. Under supervision and with detailed procedures, you will fill medication orders, maintain IV room stocks, and interact with nurses and physicians at the pharmacy window.

Requires HS diploma and Pharmacy Technician Certification; hospital experience preferred and ability to travel between facilities;

Job description

This job delivers medications to designated areas under close supervision and according to detailed instructions, policies and procedures. This job refills and maintains automated dispensing machines; prices manual medication orders, inventories and reorders stock in the pharmacy; enters data into a computer system and prints labels as necessary; reviews physician's orders and enters patient medication orders into the pharmacy order entry system; identifies problems with orders and notifies pharmacist or nursing when orders need clarification or to request patient information (i.e. allergies, height, weight) when needed; accurately compounds IV Admixtures and other assigned preparations utilizing aseptic technique and proper pharmaceutical procedures; maintains stock in all assigned areas including the IV room and other pharmacy areas; performs related clerical duties including typing, answering phone, filing and greeting nurses and physicians at the Pharmacy window.

Education

Certifications

Required - Current Pharmacy Technician Certification issued by the Board of Pharmacy in the state of practice

• Must have computer skills and dexterity required for data entry and retrieval of patient information.
• Must be proficient with Windows-style applications and keyboard.

• Must be able to travel throughout and between facilities.
• Must be able to work a flexible schedule (e.g. 24/7, weekend, holiday, on call availability).

Job Duties

• Ensures customer service and teamwork while conducting responsibilities

• Maintains competency in professional growth and responsibilities
• Adapts behavior to the specific patient population, including but not limited to: respect for privacy, method of introduction to the patient, adapting explanation of services or procedures to be performed, requesting permissions and communication style.
• Other related duties as required.
