Job summary

Allina Health is seeking a Pharmacy Technician to ensure accurate preparation and dispensing of medications while supporting pharmacists in patient care. This role emphasizes inventory control, quality assurance, and patient guidance to improve adherence and safety.

Responsibilities include sterile product preparation, barcode-assisted dispensing, and supporting automated distribution systems. Qualified candidates hold MN tech licensure or certification within 12 months, and possess healthcare

Qualifications

• Minimum of six (6) months of pharmacy experience or current national pharmacy technician certification (PTCB or NHA).
• Licensed Pharmacy Technician per MN Board requirements; certification within 12 months of hire.

Responsibilities

• Prepare sterile products and chemotherapy using barcode tech, following USP 797/800.
• Support automated drug distribution and restocking of ADC units.
• Prepare and label medications, including oral extemporaneous products and bulk compounding.
• Perform quality assurance tasks: monitor expirations, cleaning, and discrepancy reporting.
• Repackage and label bulk meds; manage unit-dose packaging and expiration dating.
• Provide patient care support and other duties as assigned.

Job description

As a pharmacy technician, you ensure patient safety by accurately preparing and dispensing medications. Your efficiency in managing inventory and processing prescriptions allows pharmacists to focus on patient care. By providing excellent customer service and medication guidance, you enhance patient satisfaction and adherence to treatment plans.

Principle Responsibilities

• Technician will routinely complete two of the following responsibilities:
• Prepare sterile parenteral products using barcode assisted technology while adhering to USP 797 and 800 requirements.
• Prepares chemotherapy using barcode assisted technology while adhering to USP 800 requirements.
• Controlled substance audit technician (less than 50% of time).
• Supports OR satellite pharmacist with drug dispensing and IV preparation for surgery patients.
• ADC assignment of medications.
• Pharmacy buyer backup.
• Manage and support automated drug distribution.
• Medication picking, delivery, and restocking to automated dispensing cabinets (ADC).
• Troubleshoots malfunctioning equipment.
• Delivers and restocks controlled substances.
• Assists with returns, waste, and reporting/resolution of discrepancies.
• Prepares medications.
• Prepares and select medications for distribution.
• Prepares oral extemporaneous products.
• Performs bulk compounding.
• Complete and document quality assurance activities.
• Monitors expiration dating.
• Performs cleaning.
• Reports discrepancies or inaccuracies to pharmacist or supervisor.
• Repackages and labels bulk medications or splits tablets into unit dose packaging.
• Creates labels using standard format.
• Fills and labels prepacking medications.
• Assigns expiration dates and maintains records.
• Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

• Must be 18 years of age with education and/or experience needed to meet required functional competencies as listed on the job description
• Minimum of six (6) months of pharmacy experience (inpatient or outpatient/retail), OR current national pharmacy technician certification (PTCB or NHA)

Preferred Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED
• Vocational or Technical Training from an American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) accredited pharmacy technician training program
• 0 to 2 years of healthcare experience

Licenses/Certifications

• Registered Pharmacy Technician - MN Board of Pharmacy required
• Certified Pharmacy Technician - Pharmacy Technician Certification Board required within 12 months of Date of Hire (NHA or PTCB Pharmacy Technician Certification Board)

Physical Demands

• Light Work:
• Lifting weight up to 20 lbs. occasionally, up to 10 lbs. frequently
• 0.8 FTE (64 hours per 2-week pay period), with opportunity to pick up additional shifts as available.
• Variable day/evening shifts ranging from 4 to 8 hours.
• Holidays and Weekend rotation will be dependent on department staffing.

Pay Range

Pay Range: $23.11 to $32.27 per hour

The pay described reflects the base hourly pay range. Your starting rate would depend on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, your experience, education, and the union agreement (if applicable). Shift, weekend and/or other differentials may be available to increase your pay rate for certain shifts or work.
