Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Valid Michigan Pharmacy Technician license.
• Minimum one year of experience as a hospital or retail pharmacy technician (retail experience applies to medication history roles).
• Ability to accurately maintain records and perform calculations.
• Ability to safely handle cytotoxic and other special-handling medications, when applicable.
• Ability to work aseptically in a vertical flow hood environment, when required.
• Ability to maintain Investigational Drug Research Records and validate doses using investigational drug protocols.
• Ability to lift, carry, and stock pharmacy inventory and transport medications to nursing units.
• Ability to use a computer keyboard and type approximately 25 WPM.
• Ability to read, interpret, and apply literature related to medications requiring special handling.
• Ability to assist in developing or modifying departmental protocols under pharmacist supervision.

Responsibilities

• Review and update patients' medication lists in the electronic medical record to ensure accuracy for admissions.
• Interview patients and their families to confirm all current medications.
• Verify names, dosages, and administration instructions for all medications.
