Job summary

Henry Ford Health is seeking an Inpatient Advance Pharmacy Technician to accurately document medication histories for inpatients. You will review prior records, conduct structured patient interviews, and verify medications with precision, including controlled substances under supervision.

You will update EMR medication lists, resolve discrepancies by coordinating with pharmacies and providers, and help manage inventory while supporting nursing units to maintain medication availability.

Qualifications

• Requires high school diploma or GED.
• Requires a valid Michigan Pharmacy Technician license.
• At least one year of experience as Hospital or Retail Pharmacy Technician.
• Ability to perform calculations and maintain records.
• Ability to work aseptically and handle cytotoxic or other special drugs as needed.

Responsibilities

• Medication History Review: compile comprehensive medication histories from documentation, hospital summaries, and pharmacy records.
• Patient and Family Interviews: verify current medications, dosages, and instructions with patients and families.
• Medication Verification: confirm names, dosages, frequencies, and instructions across all drug categories.
• Discrepancy Resolution: resolve gaps by contacting pharmacies and providers to ensure accurate data.
• Electronic Medical Record Documentation: update med lists and notes; obtain pharmacist verification prior to provider notification.
• Controlled Substance Handling: assist under pharmacist supervision with handling and accountability of controlled meds.
• Inventory Management: stock pharmacy inventory and deliver prescriptions to nursing units to ensure availability.
