Job summary

UNC Medical Center in Chapel Hill, NC is seeking a Pharmacy Technician to provide support to the pharmacist by reviewing, compounding and dispensing medications under supervision.

This per diem role offers weekend only work with hybrid scheduling, competitive hourly pay ($18.48–$25.89) and opportunities to participate in training and process improvement within the Pharmacy Inpatient Operations team.

Qualifications

• Completion of an academic pharmacy technician training program preferred.
• Current enrollment in PharmD program if working as a registered pharmacy intern with NC Board of Pharmacy.
• Registration as a technician with the NC Board of Pharmacy.
• CPhT from PTCB or ExCPT from NHA unless enrolled in a PharmD program; if enrolled, this can be waived for the duration of the PharmD program.

Responsibilities

• Review, compound and dispense medications under supervision of a pharmacist.
• Deliver and restock medications; manage inventory and expiration dates.
• Document pharmaceutical activities and ensure data accuracy.
• Triage requests from customers for pharmacy services.
• Operate automated dispensing technology to supply meds per orders.
• Assist with training new employees and participate in process improvements.
• Ensure regulatory compliance inspections of storage areas and inventories.

Summary:
The Certified Technician provides support to the pharmacist by reviewing, compounding and dispensing medications. All work is carried out under the supervision of a licensed Pharmacist.

Responsibilities:

• Compounds and/or prepares medications (sterile products, oral, topical, controlled substances, etc.) including high-risk medication processes as defined by the entity, as authorized by a physician, under the supervision of a licensed Pharmacist.
• Delivers exchanges medications to the respective patient area and returns unused medications to the pharmacy.
• Documents pharmaceutical activities including patient billing for medications and equipment, quality control requirements, etc. using automated and paper systems. Ensures accuracy of data.
• Responds to and triages requests from customers for assistance with pharmacy services such as medication delivery, drug information, etc.
• Operates and supports automated dispensing technology to supply correct medications for individual patients, according to pharmacist and physician orders.
• Orders, receives, restocks, and rotates inventory, and completes expiration date management.
• Assists with training of new employees, educating them in job-specific functions.
• Contributes to process improvement projects.
• Completes regulatory compliance inspection of medication storage areas, including inspections and/or controlled substance inventories, USP797 and other regulatory documentation as required.

Education Requirements:

• None required as long as other position qualifications are met. Completion of an academic pharmacy technician training program preferred. Current enrollment in PharmD program if working as a registered pharmacy intern with NC Board of Pharmacy.

Licensure/Certification Requirements:

• Registration as a technician with the NC Board of Pharmacy unless enrolled in a PharmD program. If currently enrolled, an NCBOP Pharmacy Intern registration may be accepted.

Professional Experience Requirements:

• Prior pharmacy technician experience is preferred.
